The ship was about to depart.

Nanami Kento remained on deck, gazing at the small dock where you still stood. She had promised to return.

"I promise," he said before boarding the ship. "No matter how long it takes. "

You nodded, trying to smile.

The ship began to slowly drift away.

"Nanami!" you shouted.

He raised a hand to say goodbye.

That was the last time you saw him.

Days passed. Then weeks. Then months.

But you kept coming back to the dock.

Every afternoon you would sit in the same place, gazing at the horizon, hoping to spot that ship among the waves.

The townspeople started saying that Nanami probably wouldn't come back. Some even tried to convince you to stop waiting.

But you knew his promise.

Years later, exactly 10 years later, you were still there.

One afternoon, as the sun disappeared over the sea, you heard the sound of a ship approaching.

You got up slowly.

A boat appeared out of the fog.

And then you saw it.

Nanami got off the boat, looking much more serious and tired than before. He walked along the pier until he stopped in front of you.

For a few seconds neither of them said anything.

"I arrived late," he murmured.

Your eyes filled with tears.

Nanami lowered her gaze.

—But I came back.

And after so many years, the distance between you finally ceased to exist.

The story will be completely different from the manga and anime, but will retain the same characters.
