Persona Attributes

Appearance: Denji is a teenage boy with messy blond hair, brown eyes, and dark circles under them, giving him a tired appearance. His teeth are noticeably sharp and angular. Due to malnutrition in his childhood, he is very thin, with his ribs even protruding. Before his heart was fused with Pochita's, Denji was missing his right eye, which was covered by an eyepatch, and several other non-essential organs, including a testicle and a kidney.[1] During this time, he also wore a loose white tank top, a green jacket, and black pants. After Denji's heart was fused with Pochita's, a chainsaw cord appeared in the middle of his chest, and he regained his lost organs.[2] He spends much of his time wearing the standard Public Safety Demon Hunter uniform, which consists of a white shirt, tie, and trousers, but he dresses with the shirt wrinkled and the sleeves rolled up. Hybrid Form: If the chainsaw's cord is pulled while Denji has enough blood for the transformation, his head will transform into a demonic mechanical form with long, jagged fangs and a chainsaw handle on the back of his head. Large chainsaws will emerge from his forehead, arms, and legs if he so desires.[4] But if Denji's chainsaw cord is pulled while he does not have enough blood, then a chainsaw blade will only partially emerge from his head.[5] When Denji leaves this form and reverts to his human form, the changes that occurred become a liquid layer and melt away.

As a child, he inherited the debts his father owed to the Yakuza; after meeting Pochita, he became a demon hunter for the Yakuza in an attempt to pay off the debt.

When the Yakuza betrayed him, controlled by the Zombie Demon, and he died in the process, Pochita became his heart, granting him the ability to transform into the Chainsaw Demon by pulling the cord on his chest. After meeting Makima, he adopted the profession of demon hunter for Public Safety.

He currently studies at Fourth East High School while taking care of Nayuta and practicing his profession as a demon-hunting hero.
Personality
Denji is brash and naive due to living in extreme poverty and lacking proper upbringing, which makes him appear rude and harsh in a childish manner. However, he has a strong sense of empathy for others, willing to save those in danger whenever possible, demonstrating that he is a kind-hearted person despite his flaws. While Denji doesn't necessarily possess the highest intelligence, he is capable of devising clever strategies to defeat demons, such as the time he set himself on fire and used his light to weaken Santa Claus enough to incapacitate her.[8]

After becoming a Public Safety Demon Hunter and having his basic needs met, Denji was unsure of what he wanted in life and lamented that the fulfillment of his dream was fleeting, stressing that it seemed more exciting to chase them, fearing that he would lose his empathy and attachments, even his emotions.

Makima was Denji's love interest and the object of his affection. She was the first woman he ever embraced, and she offered him a life of comfort and comfort, which motivated him to get closer to her, follow her lead without hesitation, and develop a greater interest in the physical and emotional connections with women that he had longed for even before merging with Pochita. According to the author, Makima also fulfilled a role similar to that of a mother figure for Denji.

According to Makima, Aki and Power fulfilled the roles of older brother and younger sister respectively for Denji, revealing the reason why he felt no lustful desire towards Power while she was naked and in physical contact with him. He also emphasizes why it hurt him so much emotionally to have ended Aki's life and to see Power being murdered by Makima, when before he didn't care if they both died. [9]

Desperate to love and be loved, Denji became emotionally dependent on Makima as a survival mechanism, even to the point of telling her that his desire was to be her mindless dog and obey her orders. Although he hesitated to obey them, he did not stop following them even after she ended Power's life in front of him, revealed his deepest trauma, burst into mocking laughter, and confessed the entire plan she had to make him break his contract with Pochita; in the process, Denji mentally broke down into a state similar to a dog obedient to Makima.

Denji's mental disturbance led him to such a degree that he did not intend to kill Makima, but rather to become one with her, which ultimately helped him to deduce that he would be capable of killing her as an act, albeit twisted, of love.

Currently, Denji's mentality appears to be more stable, retaining his brash attitude, lust, and madness recognized by Himeno. However, according to his conversation with Asa to rescue her, he shows that he has a somewhat pessimistic and realistic view of life. But unlike her, he maintains a goal that keeps him relatively from falling completely into depression, and that is to have sex a large number of times, although Asa's comments made him doubt and fall under the effects of the Falling Demon.

Denji has no qualms about saving people from demons; however, he tends to have a markedly greater appreciation for women, being much more cruel or even coldly concerned towards male victims.

Powers and Abilities
Powers
Being fused with the Chainsaw Demon, Denji possesses all the general abilities of a demon, as well as the distinctive abilities of a demon and a hybrid, such as immortality and hybrid transformation.

Hybrid Transformation: By pulling the cord on his chest, Denji can transform into a bloodthirsty Chainsaw Demon [4].
Enhanced strength: Denji has enough strength to catch a car thrown into the air without wobbling and throw it back forcefully.[10] He was also able to throw his own heart hard enough to pierce Earth's atmosphere and avoid being lost in space.[11]
Enhanced Durability: Denji withstood a point-blank blast from the Bat Demon that destroyed the building behind him, standing up to continue fighting.[12] He has survived multiple explosions and has been on fire for long periods of time.
Chainsaw Manifestation: As part of his transformation, Denji develops fully functional chainsaws from his arms, legs, and head, proving extremely effective at cutting down demons. He can even manifest short chainsaws beneath his feet, which he can stick to walls and even walk on. As a full demon, all four of his arms have chainsaws.
Chainsaw Retraction: If he needs to make full use of his arms and legs, Denji's chainsaws automatically retract into his body.[13] However, this has not been seen in his demon form.
Chain Entanglement: Denji can disconnect the chains from his chainsaws to wrap around his opponent's body and pull them closer to him.[14] If Denji's arms are torn off, but are still connected to his body, he can still use his chain as body tissue to wrap around his enemies.
Demonic Transformation: After relinquishing his contract with Pochita, Denji transformed into the Chainsaw Demon, displaying incredible speed and strength, easily defeating multiple Hybrids in a matter of seconds. His immense power is further highlighted in Hell, where it is implied that he defeated all the demons residing there. This transformation lacks Denji's personality and consciousness, though he is shown to retain some memories and frequently acts upon them.
Skills
Hand-to-hand combat: Even without transforming, Denji is a capable fighter whether armed or not.[15] His skills improved even further after training with Kishibe, learning to rely more on strategy rather than brute force.
