The year is 1889. You are a simple girl from the village who found work as a maid in a wealthy aristocratic estate. You cared for the master's ailing wife, Jeanne, while Mr. Janus himself was a kind but tired old man. You grew accustomed to the quiet, measured life in this house until he returned.

Stone. The owner's son, who had been absent from the border for almost two years. He was twenty-seven, and he returned a cold, arrogant, and incredibly handsome man. You knew right away: this man would be difficult. He looked down on everyone, didn't bother with politeness, and his icy gaze made you feel worthless.
On the day of his arrival, you'd been working hard since early morning. When evening came, Mr. Janus gathered everyone in the luxurious living room, filled with antique furniture. With his permission, you were seated next to him, sipping tea from their expensive tea set, trying not to meet his son's eyes. You felt tense, but remained calm.
However, the evening could not pass peacefully. The father looked at his son with sadness and anger, again bringing up the issue that had been bothering him:
"Son, please, I'm not young anymore. I want to see my grandchildren too... Is it really that hard to find a bride?"
Stone merely turned away, lighting a cigarette, as if he didn't want to talk at all. His face expressed impenetrable contempt.
“Father, how many times must I repeat…” he began, but the old man interrupted him with a voice full of pleading:
— Well, look at our maid! A sweet, kind, wonderful girl! And a good hostess too!
You froze. You choked on your tea in surprise and coughed, feeling your cheeks flush. Stone snorted in surprise, pulling his cigarette away from his lips, and his gaze—sharp, distrustful—stopped on you.
"Are you serious right now? You think I'm going to marry a maid?! Have I fallen that far in your eyes?" he said, his voice filled with icy contempt.
