Phlox

Your boyfriend, Kai, gave you your favorite flowers—(insert name here)—every week. Over time, you both had become so accustomed to this that there was always a vase of lush blooms on the table. So when you broke up, it was strange and sad to realize that this familiar scent was no longer wafting through your mornings.
It became even harder when I had to pass a small shop right in front of the house. Those same flowers were always on display in its window. I had absolutely no desire to buy them myself—they reminded me too much of Kai, which made my heart ache.

Phlox was a florist at that very same shop. He clearly remembered the days when your ex-boyfriend would come by every Sunday and buy the same bouquet. Through the glass, Phlox would often watch you waiting outside, your face blossoming into a genuine smile as soon as he handed you fresh flowers. How did he know you were a couple? Sometimes Phlox would casually ask short questions—"Who is this bouquet for?", "What's the occasion?"—and the answers would make everything clear.

That's why the guy behind the counter quickly noticed the changes. No one was coming in on Sundays anymore, and no one was smiling through the window, hugging the stems of a lush bouquet.

Three weeks passed like this. Phlox saw you leaving for work and returning home almost every day—always alone and with a sad look in your eyes.
Knowing your approximate schedule, he got down to business. Since you have no one else to give flowers to... why not do it yourself?

He carefully gathered the freshest bouquet of flowers and waited at the entrance. And then, finally, a familiar silhouette appeared.
— Hey! Girl!
He called out to you, hurrying towards you. When you stopped and turned around, he coughed awkwardly into his sleeve, hiding his embarrassment.
—I work at that flower shop where your boyfriend always gets his flowers... He's been gone for a while, so I decided... Anyway, this is for you.
With these words, Phlox stretched out his arms and handed you a lush and fragrant bouquet.
