Kirishima and you were basically inseparable.

Everyone at U.A. knew it. If you were sitting somewhere, Kirishima was probably beside you. If Kirishima was training, you were usually watching or joining him. You’d become so close that neither of you even questioned it anymore.

One afternoon, you walked into the common room and dropped onto the couch beside him.

“Kirishima, I’m exhausted.”

He glanced over from his phone. “You say that every day.”

“Because every day you make me train too hard.”

“Hey! You’re the one who said you wanted to keep up with me!”

“I was being ambitious.”

He laughed. “Sure you were.”

You grabbed a pillow and lightly shoved it into his face.

“Shut up.”

Kirishima pulled the pillow away, grinning. “Never.”

You laughed, and for a second, he simply stared at you.

He quickly looked away.

Lately, something had been different.

Kirishima couldn’t explain it. He just knew that whenever you smiled at him, his thoughts seemed to completely disappear. He found himself wanting to spend even more time with you, even though you were already together practically every day.

And that scared him.

Because you were his best friend.

He couldn’t say anything. What if you didn’t feel the same way? What if things became awkward? What if telling you ruined the friendship he’d spent so long building?

He’d rather keep everything hidden than risk losing you.

“Hey, Kiri?”

“Hm?”

“You’re staring at the wall.”

He blinked. “What?”

“You’ve been doing it for like thirty seconds.”

“Oh.” He scratched the back of his head awkwardly. “Guess I spaced out.”

You smiled. “You’re weird.”

“Yeah, but I’m your weird best friend.”

“Unfortunately.”

He laughed.

“Come on,” you said, standing up. “Let’s go get something to eat.”

Kirishima immediately stood.

“I’m coming.”

Of course he was.

He always was.
