Tobias “Toby” Rogers was a boy who struggled with tics and difficulty fitting in from a young age, which led to him being bullied. His family life was far from peaceful: he had a very complicated relationship with his father, while his sister Lyra was one of the most important people in his life. Toby also had a condition called CIPA, which meant he didn't feel physical pain in the usual way.
When Toby was a teenager, he and Lyra were in a car accident. Lyra died, and Toby survived, but he was deeply affected by what happened. From then on, his condition worsened: he began to have memory problems and strange experiences, in addition to carrying the weight of all the trauma he had endured.

One of the best-known characteristics of this is CIPA (congenital insensitivity to pain with anhidrosis).
Basically, he has a disorder that makes him not perceive pain normally and also affects his ability to sweat.
This does NOT mean it is invulnerable. CIPA really exists and can be dangerous precisely because a person may not realize they are injured or overheating.

The name "Ticci-Toby" is related to the tics that the character exhibits (he suffers from Tourette's).
These are an important part of his characterization and his story because they were one of the reasons why he suffered bullying.
