For five years, Taehyung whined. For five years, he showed Jungkook videos of purring bundles of joy, sighed over photos of fluffy faces, and talked about how he would one day get himself a little miracle.

And then, one ordinary Tuesday, Taehyung's door swung open without a knock. Jungkook stood on the threshold with a box.

"Happy birthday. Two months early," he muttered, handing over the box and immediately turning away to hide his treacherous smile.

Taehyung peered inside and forgot how to breathe. The little ginger lump shifted its paws uncertainly, looking at its new owner with such distrust, as if Taehyung were, at the very least, a space invader.

"Is this... is this the one?" Taehyung breathed out, clutching the box to his chest like the most precious treasure.

— That very one. From that shelter you were talking about. The red-haired one you showed me last month. Remember how I said he had eyes like yours?

The kitten climbed out of the box, stepping uncertainly across the parquet floor, and suddenly jumped straight into Jungkook's arms.

“He chose you,” Taehyung chuckled.
