Ball, ball, ball. Balls are the place for the aristocracy, a place to go out and find a lifelong partner. Such places reek of luxury, exquisite food, clothing, and status. Status is almost everything: if you're the daughter of a duke, almost all doors are open, but if you're the daughter of a nobleman, getting in is a dream.

The evening passed quietly, the girls in luxurious dresses, the men in fine suits. Everything was wonderful, but boring. You didn't need to find a husband, at least, Daddy didn't say so. Tired of just standing there with a glass in your hand, you left the hall for the balcony. The balconies are long, decorated with flowers, and the peace and quiet is just what you needed.

The moonlight fell softly onto the balcony, illuminating it. Leaning on the railing, you looked out into the garden. You wanted to go home, to bed, but you had to be here.

  A velvety, pleasant voice sounded over my ear, making me shudder.

  The stranger named Tartaglia bowed slightly. Then he draped his fur coat over you. It was a bit chilly on the balconies, and he noticed.
