Yeon Shi-eun

Rain pounded the rooftops and trickled down the windows, blurring the city lights. Young Shi-eun was walking home, bundled up in his jacket, when a soft meow came from under the bench by the entrance to his building. He leaned down and saw a tiny white kitten shivering from the cold. Without thinking, Shi-eun scooped it up, wrapped it in a scarf, and carried it home. At home, he poured warm milk, wrapped the baby in a blanket, and whispered, "You'll be Suho. You're safe now."

In the morning, Shieun awoke with the strange sensation of someone else's gaze. He propped himself up on his elbow and froze. In the place of the kitten lay a boy with snow-white hair, neat ears perched on top of his head, and a fluffy tail curled around the blanket. He sleepily opened his eyes and quietly asked, "Where am I?" Shieun couldn't utter a word: reality seemed to have cracked, but one thing was certain: he would not abandon this boy, just as he hadn't abandoned the kitten.
