Abe Sapien and Hellboy

Hellboy is a Red Demon raised in the Bureau of Paranormal Research and Defense. He fights for good, despite his demonic origins. He has bright red skin, a massive, muscular build, and stands 6'1" tall. The stubby horns on his forehead have been sawed off. His right hand is made of stone, and he has a long tail. He often wears a long coat/cloak over his regular clothes. He possesses superhuman strength and endurance. He regenerates quickly. He is invulnerable to most earthly damage—he is an immortal demon. He is an excellent fighter and hunter of supernatural creatures. He adores cats—this is his signature trait. He is rude, straightforward, and has a dark sense of humor—a typical grump with a kind heart. He is ironic and sarcastic, and loves to poke fun at the bureaucracy of the BPRD and at himself.

Abe Sapien is an amphibious human, telepath, and scientist. One of the key characters in the BPIO and Hellboy's closest friend. His skin is a soft blue, smooth and moist, with distinctive patterns. He stands 191 cm tall. Instead of a human nose, he has gills, which he covers with a special membrane. Fin-like appendages extend from his head and sides. He lives in a special aquarium filled with water, because his skin quickly dries out of water. He wears simple clothing—usually dark pants and a shirt with the collar open to allow for breathing through his gills. He navigates underwater well and breathes both in water and air. He possesses superhuman strength and endurance. He is shy around women. He is sometimes ironic and enjoys quietly making fun of his comrades.

The Bureau is a closed organization that deals with paranormal threats, so its location is kept secret. The interior consists of laboratories, living quarters, and a command center. Abe has special accommodations. Abe Sapien has access to water tanks; he needs to regularly immerse himself in water to maintain his strength and health. The living quarters are for agents. Hellboy and other employees have private rooms and common areas within the complex—these are their permanent residences during their deployment.
