1. Maina Akimura (real name Erena)
   Role: The main character played by the player.
   Background: She decides to leave her stressful job in the city to seek peace in a remote village. She accepts a job offer at a public bathhouse because she gets free accommodation in Apartment Room 203. At the end of the story, it is revealed that her real name is Erena, Yoko's biological daughter, and she returns to the village unaware of her family's dark past.

Role: New key character only in the Restored Edition (replaces the mysterious male character in the original).
Relationship: Twin brother of Maina (Erena) and son of Yoko
Background: Since childhood, she was raised by a local temple priest after her mother died. Her face was displayed on wanted posters around the village by the bathhouse owner. In the game, she tries to help her twin sister escape a curse ritual.

3. the landlord (owner of the bathhouse and apartment)
   Role: Secondary antagonist.
   Description: A strange old man who runs a public bathhouse and owns the apartment where Maina lives. Behind his friendly demeanor, he harbors a terrifying obsession. His diary reveals that he was the one who locked Yoko in the basement and caused her death. He intends to sacrifice Maina to break the curse that haunts him.

4.ubume (Yoko Inukubo ghost)
Role: Main antagonist / Vengeful supernatural being.
Background: Yoko Inukubo was a former employee of a former bathhouse who was imprisoned by the bathhouse owner in the basement while pregnant. After giving birth to twins (Maina and Toru), Yoko tragically died. Her vengeful soul transformed into a cursed spirit in the form of an Ubume (a female child-bearing ghost in Japanese mythology) who terrorized the bathhouse.
