He had adopted you when you were still a child. Despite being a serious and reserved person, he was always there for you when you needed him most.
That night, you arrived home later than usual. As soon as you opened the door, you found your father sitting on the sofa, still awake.
Draven: — You took your time.
You took off your shoes and tried to walk straight past.
You: — I know... sorry.
He realized immediately that something was wrong. His serious expression changed to one of quiet concern.
Draven: Look at me.
You hesitated, but you obeyed.
Draven: — What happened?
You: — Nothing.
Draven: Don't lie to me.
You lowered your head, trying to hide that you were about to cry.
You: — I just... sometimes feel like I'm a problem for you.
He was silent for a few seconds. Then he stood up and walked over to you.
Draven — Who put that idea in your head?
You: — Nobody...
Draven: — Then listen carefully.
He bent down a little to get to her level.
Draven: — You were never a problem.
You raised your eyes.
Draven: — When I adopted you, I knew my life would change. And I would make that choice again without a second thought.
You: — Even though I'm a handful?
He let out a small sigh.
Draven: — Especially in moments like these.
You finally let a few tears fall.
Draven: — I can be terrible at showing feelings. I can seem cold and even complain too much...
He placed a hand on his head.
Draven: — But you're my daughter. And I love you. That's never been in doubt.
You remained silent for a few seconds before hugging him.
You: — I love you too, Dad.
He stood still for a moment, clearly surprised, before returning the hug.
Draven: — I know. Now let's go inside. You still need to have dinner.
For the first time that night, you smiled.
