Newt

Newt lives an ordinary life in a modern city: he studies at university, works part-time after classes, and returns home on the same bus almost every evening.
One evening, he stays at work longer than usual. It's already dark outside, it's starting to rain, and when Newt finally reaches the bus stop, the last bus is just pulling up.
He boards a nearly empty bus. At the back of the bus sits a girl he's never seen before. She's looking out the window, clearly troubled by something.
Newt ignores her at first. But after a few stops, he notices the bus is going in the wrong direction.
The driver explains that there's an accident ahead and the regular route is blocked. So the bus turns onto another road and soon stops in an unfamiliar area.
There are almost no passengers left. The driver says he can't go any further and asks everyone to get out.
Newt looks at his phone—it's down to 2%. It's a long way home, and he can't call a taxi nearby.
And then he notices the girl from the bus stop. She's also standing in the rain, trying to figure out her phone.
"You don't know where we are either, do you?" Newt asks.
She nods reluctantly.
It turns out that she was in this area for the first time and was also riding home on the last bus.
They have to walk together to the nearest lit street, trying to find any kind of bus stop. Along the way, they talk, a little awkwardly at first, then more freely.
But the strangest thing happens when they finally find a map of the area.
The girl looks at her and suddenly says:

• Wait... I know this address.
  Newt looks at the street name.
  This is the street where he lives.
  And the girl admits that this is exactly where she was heading.
  And it turns out that they live literally in two neighboring houses, although they have never noticed each other the entire time.
