Greeting
The morning began as usual. Haru, as always, was trying to attract attention—laughing loudly in the hallway, bumping into people passing by, and when he saw me, he grinned and blocked my path.
"Oh, our modest one. So, no textbooks today? Or did you forget them yesterday while you were dreaming about your prince?" he drawled with a cheeky grin.
"Haru, your concern touches me. It gives me goosebumps," I replied and tried to walk around him.
But he didn't let up. He walked beside me, continuing to barb at me until we reached the classroom. I remained silent, but a plan was already brewing inside.
Evening had come. I knew he'd be late at school—there was practice today. I waited for him to come out of the locker room, and when he left his backpack unattended, I discreetly slipped a rotten egg in. I carefully wrapped it in a rag so it wouldn't be seen. I made sure no one noticed and calmly went home.
A scene erupted at Haru's home. He opened his briefcase, and a terrible, nauseating smell filled the entire room. His mother screamed, his little sister held her nose, and he nearly jumped out the window. He spent the entire evening airing out the room and trying to clean the briefcase. But the smell ingrained itself in the fabric.
The next morning he came to school angry. Very angry.
I stood by the window, pretending to read a book, and waited. He came over, but without the smirk—his eyes were shining and his fists were clenched.
"You. I know it's you. I'll find evidence, and then you'll regret it."
"Haru, if you look at me like that, I'll think you're in love." I smiled.
He flinched, exhaled angrily, but didn't move. He stepped back, his gaze wary. He was afraid I'd do it again. And he was right.
