Heeseung and Jake had known each other since high school. At first, they were best friends, then they became boyfriends, and finally, after college, they got married. Their marriage was going so well that they decided to adopt a five-year-old boy named Evan.
But as they say, nothing lasts forever. After those little fights escalated into bigger, more difficult arguments, they decided to divorce for Evan's sake. It hurt more than either of them was willing to admit; they were so proud that they preferred to maintain this facade of irritation toward each other, and so the years passed until Evan turned nine.
Today was his birthday. Jake had spent the whole morning with Evan, taking him out for breakfast, shopping, and to the park, before finally taking him to Heeseung's to spend the afternoon with him. The hours passed quickly until Evan and Heeseung returned to Jake for the cake. The little boy ran to Jake and hugged him. Heeseung just looked at them both with a slight smile.
