A somewhat effeminate boy who seriously likes Nanba. He was upset for losing the beauty pageant because he helped Mizuki when she was kidnapped. At first, he was secretive about being in love with Nanba, but eventually became less subtle. Towards the end of the series, he confesses his feelings to Nanba, though is rejected. He'd even attack the girls that tried to flirt with Nanba, tackling them, glaring at them, etc.

Shuichi is a classmate of Izumi Sano and Mizuki Ashiya, and the trio frequently gets together to participate in Osaka High's activities. They also hang around with the rest of their group. Being a loud and brash boy, Shuichi offers a contrast to the stoic Izumi. This contrast is deliberate, for he soon develops feelings for Mizuki. However, he thinks that she is a guy, due to her disguise, and this causes him to believe that he himself is gay.

Like Izumi, Shuichi is an athlete. He is a member of the soccer team. His career was once under threat when he was falsely accused of cheating during an exam. Luckily, with the help of the three dorm leaders, he managed to clear his name.

Although that was the case, usually, he is on rather poor terms with Minami Nanba, the student leader in charge of his dorm. Minami would frequently tell him to shut up during dorm meetings. Also, he is often kicked in the head by Hokuto Umeda, the school doctor who happens to be Minami's uncle.

Hailing from the city of Osaka, Shuichi speaks with a distinct Kansai accent, which adds to his reputation as a joker. On top of that, he's often seen as a glutton among his group of friends, although Mizuki sometimes joins him in ordering big portions of food.

Nanba is the R.A. of Sano and Mizuki's dorm. He's a nephew of Umeda-sensei, and is one school-year older than Mizuki. He's a "ladies man" although very sensible. He was once in love with his tutor, Kanako Tanabe, but she left him. Umeda claims that this was what caused Nanba to become the "ladies man" he is today. In the future, it is said that he became a model. He, along with the other R.A.s finds out that Mizuki is a girl, but helps keep her secret (although it wasn't a secret for very long). Among Mizuki's group of friends, he seems to frequently butt heads with Nakatsu.

He's also a former winner of the Miss Osaka Pageant, during his first year at Osaka High, a fact which he isn't terribly proud of.

His name is taken from Namba Station, located in Minami, a region in Chuo-ku, Osaka.

Umeda Hokuto (梅田 北斗) is the doctor at the school's nurse office. He knows that Ashiya Mizuki is a girl, gives her advice, and pretty much acts like an older brother or uncle to her. Umeda is gay. He is the uncle of Nanba Minami and brother to both Nanba Io (Minami's mother) and Umeda Rio. He is also in love with one of his old friends, another character from a different one of Hisaya Nakajo's stories. Karasuma (the reporter hounding Sano) is very terrified of him, but he just explains that he "shut her up" since she was "all freaked out about something and wouldn't shut up" while he was in a bad mood, so he choked her. He has a tendency to kick people in the head and call them stupid.

A second-year student at Osaka Academy, she returned from the United States. When she was in junior high school, she was moved by the beauty of the high jump athlete Izumi Sano, who was considered a promising athlete at the time, watching a TV program. He has been a big fan ever since. However, when she learned that Sano had stopped high jumping for some reason, she returned to Japan with the desire to ensure that he can jump again. Back when Izumi was still in junior high, on one icy winter night, his father and mother were driving home from a party. His father, alcohol induced, lost control on the icy road and crashed the car. His father was hurt, but his mother died. This caused his father to go into depression believing that he himself was the cause of the accident. His father channeled his anger at himself to Izumi by pressuring and forcing him to jump higher and higher. For that reason, Izumi despised his father and refused to see or talk to him, going as far as to enroll into Osaka Gakuen on a scholarship, refusing his father's money.

When his father went to Osaka for the high jump pre-competition as a coach for Shin's school, Izumi had to finally confront his issues with his father. With Mizuki's encouragement and help, he finally realized his father was sorry and they made up with each other.

Remationship with Shin:

Back before Izumi and Shin's mother died, they were extremely close brothers. When he left Hokkaidō for Osaka to go to school, he never visited or called, leaving Shin with a feeling of abandonment. However, we see that Shin still loves his brother very much; Shin stills calls Izumi "Nii-san" or big brother and we see that later Shin continues with high jumping because he looks up to his brother.

The relationship with each other is still rocky as we can see when the second year students of Osaka go on a school trip to Hokkaidō. Izumi saw Shin purposely picking fights with anyone and refusing his help.

Afterwards, when Shin goes to Osaka for the high jump pre-competition, they finally get a chance to talk it out and get their relationship back to the way it was before.

Character:

Izumi is a member of the high-jump team in Osaka High. Widely considered to be a star in the high school sporting scene, he even has a fan all the way in the US: Mizuki Ashiya. Mizuki then decided to make a controversial decision: She transferred herself to Osaka High just to get near to Izumi. There was a big problem, for Osaka High is an all-boys school.

As fate would have it, Izumi was the first person Mizuki bumped into on her first day in Osaka. To complicate matters, the pair turned out to be classmates and roommates. Mizuki herself was elated at this turn of events, although she worried that Izumi, her idol, would find out about her true gender.

While Mizuki was playing soccer with Shuichi Nakatsu, she was accidentally knocked unconscious by Shuichi. When Izumi took the initiative to cradle the girl to the school doctor, he accidentally felt her chest as he was carrying her to the nurse's office (This was only revealed towards the end of the series, although the reader is aware that Izumi knew Mizuki's true identity). After the incident, the high-jumper took it upon himself to look after Mizuki, and help hide her identity. Meanwhile, Mizuki remains unaware that her secret's already known to Izumi.

On top of keeping Mizuki's identity a secret, Izumi has to suppress his own feelings for the girl. To make matters worse, Nakatsu too fell in love with Mizuki, and later challenged Sano, asking if he has feelings for Mizuki. Sano successfully evaded the question, without revealing that Mizuki's really a girl.

Hana-Kimi (花ざかりの君たちへ, Hana Zakari no Kimi-tachi e) is a Japanese anime television series based on the manga series of the same name written and illustrated by Hisaya Nakajo. The manga was serialized in Japan in Hakusensha's semi-monthly shōjo manga magazine Hana to Yume. The series was concluded with the Japanese release of volume 23 in November 2004.

The anime was announced by Aniplex on May 15, 2024.[1] It was later confirmed to be a television series produced by Signal.MD and directed by Natsuki Takemura, with Shigeru Ueda serving as assistant director, Takao Yoshioka handling series composition, Shi Yi Su designing the characters, and Masaru Yokoyama composing the music.[2][3] The series premiered from January 4, 2026 to March 22, 2026, on Tokyo MX and other networks, airing 12 episodes.

A second season was announced after the first seasons finale on March 22, 2026.[4] It premiered on July 2, 2026.

Crunchyroll licensed and produced an English dub of the series, which premiered on their streaming service on the same day as Japan's release on January 4, 2026.[5][6] The second season's English dub premiered on July 15, 2026.[7]
