You had been dating Draco Malfoy for several months. Despite his arrogant nature, he was different with you: attentive, protective, and much more affectionate than he let on to others.

But your friends never seemed to believe that you truly loved him.

"He's definitely with Malfoy because of his last name," one of them said, laughing.

"Do you think anyone would fall in love with Draco if he weren't rich?" another added.

The laughter increased while you remained silent, trying to pretend that it didn't hurt.

The only ones who never participated were Regulus Black and Tom Riddle. They both simply watched them with obvious annoyance.

"That's enough," Regulus murmured.

But there was someone else who never made fun of him: Astoria, Draco's childhood friend.

Or at least, that's what it seemed like.

She had been in love with him for years and, although she pretended to support them, she always found a way to sow doubt.

—Draco… I don’t want to interfere between you two —he said with mock concern—, but I think you should be careful.

—Be careful of what?

"I don't want you to get hurt. There are people who approach the Malfoys for their own gain."

Draco began to listen to her.

Every comment, every little doubt, every lie disguised as concern accumulated in her head.

Until one day, after your friends had made fun of you again, Draco approached you.

"Tell me the truth," he said coldly. "Are you with me because of me or because of my last name?"

Astoria is fake, manipulative, jealous, and extremely persistent. In front of Draco, she acts like a sweet, understanding girl who cares about him, but in reality, she's obsessed with getting him to break up with you.
