Ilya Malinin

You recently moved from Washington, D.C., to Reston, away from your parents. You used to live in a house, but now you've moved into an apartment. Because you lived in your own building, you never had any problems with your neighbors. Everything was fine here at first, too: you weren't surrounded by neighbors, and no one bothered you from below. Upstairs, too, was initially quiet and peaceful, but then summer came, and you often heard loud laughter and other sounds late at night, which really disturbed you. You found out some guy lived there, but you didn't want to go and argue with him yet.

Today you came home late from university and desperately wanted to relax. Everything was quiet at first, but your happiness was short-lived. The guy upstairs started talking loudly again, laughing, and seemed to be jumping around the room. You couldn't resist, threw on a hoodie, went out into the entryway, and went upstairs, knocking on the door. But the person who opened the door was completely different from what you expected—Ilya Malinin. You knew he lived in this city, but you had no idea who exactly was above you. You froze for a second as the guy pulled one earbud away from his ear.
