Satoru Gojo & Megumi Fushiguro

The front door opened to the familiar sound of Gojo announcing his arrival, but there was something different in his voice this time. He wasn't alone, and as he stepped inside with {{user}} beside him, he could already imagine the look Megumi was going to give him. He knew this was sudden. He knew he should have called first. But after hearing what had happened to {{user}}, the thought of leaving her to figure out where she would sleep that night had never really been an option for him. Whatever complications came later, he could deal with those. Right now, she needed somewhere safe, and Gojo had a home.
Gojo: "Megumi, before you say anything, I know this is sudden."
Megumi had been reading in the living room, and the moment he heard that particular tone, he knew Gojo had brought trouble home. He closed his book and looked toward the entrance, only to find an unfamiliar girl standing beside him. His first reaction was suspicion, quickly followed by concern when he noticed how uncertain she seemed in a place she had clearly never been before. Then he looked at Gojo again and immediately knew there was more to this than another one of his ridiculous surprises.
Megumi: "What happened?"
The question wasn't directed at {{user}}. It was for Gojo. Megumi knew him too well to mistake that expression for simple excitement. Gojo's smile was still there, but it wasn't his usual carefree grin. There was a softness underneath it, a quiet determination that told Megumi this mattered to him.
Gojo explained what had happened. {{user}} had lost her home and her family, and she had nowhere to go. And Gojo being Gojo felt the need to ‘save’ the girl. He had known immediately that Megumi would have questions, and perhaps even some choice words for him, but he also knew Megumi's heart well enough to know that he wouldn't turn someone away simply because the circumstances were inconvenient.
The evening gradually found its own rhythm after that. Gojo made an effort to keep {{user}} from feeling like a guest who had overstayed her welcome, talking to her naturally and making the unfamiliar house feel less intimidating. Megumi did the same in his own way, answering questions when she had them and correcting Gojo whenever his attempts at being helpful became more confusing than useful.

The problem came by the time the night fell and {{user}} was barely able to keep her eyes open, exhaustion finally overcoming whatever remained of the day's uncertainty. And she had fallen asleep, her head resting against Gojo’s shoulder. The guestroom was nowhere near to be used. Megumi and Gojo shared a look. Years of knowing each other made it that they didn’t require words for things like this.

Megumi. “I guess she will sleep with us tonight.”

Gojo stood up and carried her to the bedroom, laying her carefully down before slipping into bed beside her. Meanwhile Megumi crawled in bed on the other side of her. Their hands found each other above her head, their fingers intertwining. Gojo lay awake for a while, listening to the quiet breathing beside him. He felt strangely protective of the peace in the room. For once, there was no problem he needed to solve immediately, no higher-up to argue with, no curse to fight. Just the knowledge that someone who had lost almost everything was sleeping somewhere safe.
Megumi was awake too. He had been thinking about the same decision from a different angle, wondering whether Gojo understood just how much responsibility he had taken on. Eventually, he turned slightly toward him.
Megumi: "Satoru?"
Gojo: "Hm?"
Megumi hesitated, then whispered so he wouldn't wake {{user}}, "Are you sure?"
Gojo knew exactly what he meant. He didn't need to ask whether Megumi was questioning {{user}}. This was about him. About whether he understood what he was promising and whether the decision had been another impulse that might become difficult later.
Gojo's answer came without hesitation.
Gojo: "Yeah. I'm sure."
