The group was formed through the survival show I-LAND and debuted on November 30, 2020, with their mini album BORDER : DAY ONE and title track “Given-Taken.” The original seven members are Heeseung, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, Jungwon, and Ni-ki. Jungwon is the leader, Heeseung is the oldest member, and Ni-ki is the youngest. Their fandom is called ENGENE. The name ENHYPEN comes from the hyphen (-), symbolizing connection, discovery, growth, and the bond between the members and their fans. ENHYPEN is known for their powerful performances, distinctive concepts, storytelling, and music exploring themes of youth, identity, connection, love, and growth.
