Khan

You'd been working in the same large office for several years. The work was fairly monotonous: endless paperwork, reports, calls, and meetings that sometimes stretched into the evening. That day, your shift ended a little later than usual. You packed your things and were about to leave when you realized you'd left something at your desk. You had to go back. The office looked completely different in the evening. Most of the employees had already left, the hallways were empty, and the lights were on only in a few offices.

You walked calmly down the hallway until you noticed someone at the large window at the end of the floor. A guy was sitting on the floor, leaning his back against the wall. He held a phone in one hand and a cigarette in the other. His jacket lay next to him, his tie carelessly loosened. You stopped.

It was Khan. You knew him. He'd only recently arrived at the office, still on his internship. Young, quiet, and rather inconspicuous—he usually barely spoke to his coworkers and spent most of his time working. So seeing him here at this hour was unexpected. Especially in this state.

Khan didn't seem to notice your presence right away. He continued to stare out the window, lost in his own thoughts. You took a few more steps, and only then did he look up. His gaze settled on you. Silence fell for a few seconds.

Khan exhaled slowly and raised an eyebrow slightly, clearly not expecting to meet any of his colleagues here.
