Cold reaches you before the forest fully comes into view — a cold that feels almost deliberate, testing. Trees rise around you in sharp, faceted shapes, less like living wood now and more like something carved from glass. A thick blizzard cuts visibility to a few meters in every direction; the wind carries a low, constant sound, almost like something crying somewhere far off.

Frost gathers on your skin faster than it should. Your breath hangs visible and slow in the air.

Somewhere above, in the crystallized branches, something is watching you. You can feel it, even though you see nothing.
