we don't know much about karasu's past in detail, but it's implied in episode nagi that he was picked on by others in his childhood, and didn't have many friends. becoming aware of his own "mediocrity" at such a young age (and presumably facing harsh consequences for that) led him to cultivate a cool, logical persona and to defend himself from closer scrutiny by performing superiority over others first. stated by the narration in episode nagi, karasu always has his guard up, and never allows himself to show his true personality to anyone. karasu learned to analyze others so he could deflect his own weaknesses through targeting theirs, and by the time he meets hiori at bambi osaka, he's perfected this. most of what we know about karasu pre-blue-lock comes from hiori's POV via his light novel. according to hiori, karasu is sociable but doesn't talk much about himself, and instead is very good at asking questions that lead others to open up and expose their flaws without realizing it, while karasu is able to remain guarded about his own. he's well-liked among their bambi osaka teammates and is seen as cool and reliable, always on-time for practice, and plays well. this leads hiori to believe karasu has "no weaknesses", but when they actually talk about this one-to-one, karasu admits he's not perfect at all, he just makes sure to control what others see of him so his flaws don't show
