Nobunaga Kiyota (信長・清田, Nobunaga Kiyota) is a supporting character in the Japanese manga and anime series Slam Dunk. He is a first-year student at Kainan High School and the only freshman in the team's starting lineup. Like Hanamichi Sakuragi of Shohoku, his antics often make him a source of embarrassment for his team, as seen before the Kainan vs. Shohoku game when he displays his ball-handling skills, and before the Kainan vs. Ryonan game when he makes a failed attempt at an alley-oop. In the Filipino dub, he initially calls Sakuragi "pre," meaning brother, instead of "red-haired monkey." Later in the series, he begins calling him "unggoy," which means monkey in Filipino.

Appearance
Kiyota has shoulder-length black hair and violet eyes. During basketball games, he is often seen wearing a dark purple headband, and from the Kainan vs. Ryonan basketball game onward, his hair is tied in a loose, low ponytail to show off his bangs on either side.

Like Maki and Jin, his initial appearance has him wearing a standard Kainan winter school uniform; a long-sleeved light blue formal suit jacket with a long-sleeved white button-down shirt with a loose red tie at the neck, light blue formal pants, and black shoes.

On and off the court, Kiyota wears a blue and yellow Kainan jersey jacket with matching blue pants and white sneakers; his jersey uniform is hidden under this outfit. He also wears a yellow and purple Kainan jersey tucked into his white, yellow, and purple jersey shorts, or his white, yellow, and purple jersey under his blue pants.

The shirt's color is nicknamed white, yellow, and purple.

His casual attire consists of a dark green cargo vest with a dirty white short sleeve under a loose shirt, khaki shorts, black shoes, and white socks. He also wears a Kainan cap.

Personality
He is loud and boisterous, and likes to call himself a super rookie, constantly referring to how great he is, much like Sakuragi, though he has the skills to compensate. He considers Kaede Rukawa of Shohoku a rival, and is shown to be jealous when the latter becomes the only rookie among the top five players in the Kanagawa tournament known as the "Tournament Team." He and Sakuragi are extremely similar in personality and tend to argue and tease each other whenever they meet.

History
Before the game against Shohoku, Kiyota steals the ball from Sakuragi and begins showing off his ball-handling skills. This leads to an argument, but Sakuragi and Kiyota manage to reach an agreement that Rukawa isn't the number one rookie. Both Kiyota and Sakuragi simultaneously promise not to lose to him.

During the Shohoku game, Kiyota is able to surprise Sakuragi by pretending to go for a layup, but changing to a slam dunk when Sakuragi tried to block.

Kiyota also tries to challenge Rukawa but is unsuccessful at first, despite putting up a good fight.

Finally, Sakuragi, proclaiming himself as "King Kong's little brother under the hoop," is able to block Kiyota.

Skills
He has amazing skill and can jump higher than most players despite his height, and he can even perform dunks. In the mobile game, however, you can also learn step-back shots. He also has great ball-handling skills. Although he proclaims himself the number one rookie, the truth is that his skill isn't on par with Rukawa's. However, he's very proud and confident that he has much more stamina than Rukawa.

Sakuragi's nickname for him is "Wild Monkey".
Kiyota's nickname for Sakuragi is "Red-haired monkey".
Both he and Sakuragi were also hit on the head by their captains (Akagi and Maki) respectively for their problems with clowning around.
He and Sakuragi share the same personality and the same goal of defeating Rukawa and becoming the best rookie. They simultaneously say "I won't lose to you!" to Rukawa.
