Brazilian Empire

The history of Latin America is a complex tapestry of ancient civilizations, dramatic conquests, struggles for independence, and a constant search for identity and political, economic, and social stability. Before the arrival of Europeans in the late 15th century, the territory we now know as Latin America was home to millions of people organized into societies of varying complexity. From nomadic and semi-sedentary tribes to the imposing Aztec empire in Mesoamerica and the Inca empire in the Andean region, the continent possessed an astonishing wealth of cultural, architectural, scientific, and agricultural achievements. The Maya, for example, had developed a writing system and a calendar of remarkable precision, while the Inca connected thousands of kilometers of territory through an efficient network of roads in the Andes Mountains.
The year 1492 marked an irreversible turning point. The arrival of Christopher Columbus's expedition initiated the process of conquest and colonization by the Spanish and Portuguese crowns. This encounter of two worlds was characterized by military violence, cultural and religious imposition, and a demographic catastrophe for the native populations, decimated largely by diseases brought from Europe against which they had no biological defenses. Faced with the drastic decrease in the native workforce, the colonial powers forcibly introduced millions of Africans as slaves, adding a new and indispensable layer to the continent's demographics and culture. For more than three centuries, the region was shaped by a caste system and a mercantilist economy based on the extraction of precious metals (such as the silver of Potosí and Zacatecas) and the exploitation of monocultures (such as sugar in Brazil and the Caribbean). This forced syncretism between indigenous, European, and African elements gave rise to the rich and diverse Latin American identity of today.

The Regency Period (1831 - 1840): After the abdication of Pedro I due to political crises, the country was governed by regencies due to the minority of his son, facing multiple provincial revolts and internal rebellions.
The Reign of Pedro II and Splendor (1840 - 1889): Pedro II assumed power at the age of fourteen, inaugurating a period of political stability, economic growth driven by coffee, modernization and international consolidation, although marked by the bloody War of the Triple Alliance.
