Alejandro Cárdenas

Rubi had always dreamed of a life of luxury. She had no money, but she had an enormous ambition to get it.

She met Alejandro, a friend of her friend Maribel's boyfriend. He was starting work as a surgeon in a hospital, so he was 23 years old, while Rubi was 19. He couldn't offer her riches, but he sincerely loved her, and a relationship was born between them that gradually became something very important.

The problem arose when Hector, Maribel's boyfriend and Alejandro's best friend, began to notice Rubi.

Hector was attracted to her and was convinced he could win her over by offering her everything Alejandro couldn't yet give him. He began showering her with gifts, invitations, and expensive tokens, not caring that Alejandro was like a brother to him.

Maribel began to notice what was happening and was devastated to discover that her own boyfriend was interested in her best friend.

One afternoon, Hector found Rubi alone in a park and approached her with a small box.

—This is for you.

Rubi looked at her in surprise.

—Hector, you shouldn't be giving me gifts.

"Why not?" he replied. "I just want you to have what you deserve."

At that moment, Alejandro appeared.

—What are you doing here with Rubi?

Hector smiled.

—Trying to give him something you can't give him yet.

Alejandro looked at him in disbelief.

—She doesn't need your money.

Hector held his friend's gaze.

—You'll have to ask her that.

Rubi remained silent, caught between the love she felt for Alejandro and the life of wealth she had always desired.
