Feitan Portor (フェイタン゠ポートオ, Feitan Pōtoo) is one of the members of the Phantom Troupe. He is member number 2 and his physical strength ranks fifth in the group.

Feitan is short, with medium-length hair and dressed in what one would expect of a bandit—dark clothing with a trademark skull crest covering his mouth. Feitan's spider tattoo has yet to be revealed.

Feitan is the Phantom Troupe's interrogator, highly skilled in the art of torture. He has an extremely cold demeanor, but is also known for his unwavering loyalty to Chrollo and the Phantom Troupe as a whole. While not the most affable member, he seems to get along fairly well with the others and interacts with them normally, except in a few tense situations when there are confrontations with some of them. Feitan appears to work best with Phinks, as they seem to get along very well and are often paired together in battles. The two frequently compete to see who can rack up the most kills. They can also be seen together outside of combat situations when they are casually hanging out. Some subtle moments also suggest that Feitan has a good relationship with Shalnark, displaying a protective attitude when he told the latter to stay back and watch while he and Shizuku dealt with the remaining Shadow Beasts, and when he later asked Machi about Shalnark's whereabouts when he didn't see him at the base. Feitan also agreed to let Gon and Killua go home after their initial capture by the Phantom Troupe, but only after Shalnark determined it would be alright for them to do so.

Feitan displays a surprisingly humorous side, as seen when he and Shalnark begin to mock Phinks after their respective battles with the Chimera Ants, with Feitan having a silly expression on his face the whole time and running away like a child, along with Shalnark, while being chased by Phinks.

Feitan may or may not have a sympathetic side, however insignificant, if he learns that the interrogated victims died under torture after telling him all the information they knew. This was demonstrated when the person in charge of guarding the auction items didn't tell him about Fukuro's involvement in their disappearance.

Even before Chrollo's absence, Feitan appeared to be second-in-command, implicitly being deeply involved in all of the Phantom Troupe's activities. He remembered precise details such as how long it had been since the members had last gathered, what had changed since then, and who the new members were. Without their leader's physical presence, the other members seemed to look to Feitan for instructions, such as what to do with Fukuro and the rest of the Shadow Beasts. He was also the member to whom Chrollo sent the "go berserk" message during the second auction, which Feitan then relayed to all the other members.

Feitan's native language is Chinese; he speaks reversed Japanese when he's angry. It's shown in the manga that his speech generally consists of few words and poor grammar.

Feitan is often seen in the anime and manga reading Trevor Brown's art books. Feitan appears to be left-handed and seemingly ambidextrous, as he is seen holding his sword in his left hand until it breaks, then switching to using his right. When Chrollo uses Neon's ability to predict the fortunes of the Phantom Troupe members, Feitan is one of the three whose fortunes are not revealed due to a lack of information, as he doesn't know his birthdate. After defeating Zazan, the self-proclaimed queen of the Chimera Ants, Feitan becomes the de facto leader of the Phantom Troupe until Chrollo regains the use of his Nen abilities.

Feitan is one of the original members of the Phantom Troupe, along with Franklin, Machi, Pakunoda, Chrollo Lucilfer, Nobunaga Hazama, and Uvogin. They originated in Meteor City, a junkyard town inhabited by outcasts who don't consider themselves part of society. The people who live there don't exist in any official records, and the town's existence is known to very few. Later, more members joined the Troupe, in accordance with Chrollo's idea that a group should consist of exactly thirteen members, including himself.

As a founding member of the company, he participated in the Kurta Clan massacre. At one point, he nearly killed several members of the Brigade when he unleashed his Pain Packer ability as they attempted to observe.

Among the Phantom Troupe, Feitan is the fifth strongest in arm wrestling, making him one of the physically strongest members. He also proves to be the fastest in the Troupe, as shown during his fight with Zazan and during the massacre in Yorkshin City. His speed began to increase dramatically, as he was able to create a wall of multiple afterimages and appear behind an enemy in a very short amount of time. Several members of the Troupe would have been easily killed if they had even tried to get a glimpse of his ability. He is a highly skilled swordsman, able to effectively block most of Zazan's rapid attacks with powerful strikes. The full extent of his abilities has yet to be revealed, but his extreme speed, great strength, and powerful Nen abilities make him a deadly adversary.

Enhanced Strength: Feitan is the fifth physically strongest member of the Phantom Troupe, so his physical strength is likely tremendous. He was able to easily overpower Gon, leaving him unable to move. And he was able to decapitate several members of the mafia in an instant.

Enhanced Agility: Feitan was able to move and attack from all directions, while creating multiple afterimages of himself, creating feints and moving in spaces that seem impossible.
Enhanced Stamina: He is able to dodge almost all of Zazan's attacks and move at immense speeds without breaking a sweat, with a very powerful Nen ability that would consume a large amount of aura, and continuing his fight is proof of his high level of stamina.
Enhanced Pain Resistance: Feitan continued fighting a very powerful enemy, such as Zazan, even after suffering a broken arm and several broken ribs. After winning, he and the rest of the Phantom Troupe killed all the humans who had been transformed into monsters during the battle.

However, he's not as resilient as Hisoka, as he bluntly stated after losing his arm. On the other hand, Phinks' offer to switch places with him was the main incentive.
Master of Swordsmanship: Feitan is a highly skilled swordsman, wielding his hidden sword with deadly precision: he can decapitate people accurately, block all of Zazan's attacks using only his weapon, and strike an enemy's exposed points. By adding Nen to his melee attacks, he can make them significantly stronger.
Expert in Torture: Feitan is an expert at torturing people to extract information, as he did with Fukuro, or for revenge, as he intended to do to Gon. His sadistic nature was revealed when he was killing Zazan with his Rising Sun.

Feitan is a skilled Nen user: his Rising Sun is said to be capable of instantly killing Kalluto, a notorious assassin, had he been left in the location where he was to be released. Shizuku admitted that she nearly died trying to see him. Feitan uses a sword, concealed within an umbrella, as his preferred weapon, making him very versatile. Aside from these abilities, he is also a skilled Ko user.

The Hunter Association is an international organization comprised of individuals who have passed an extremely difficult exam and hold a Hunter license. They may specialize in exploring uncharted territories, investigating ruins, searching for treasure, capturing criminals, studying creatures, protecting people, or gathering information.

The planet contains numerous countries, cities, and regions, but humanity knows only a limited portion of the world. Beyond the known territories lies the Dark Continent, a vast expanse inhabited by creatures and phenomena. Due to its dangers, travel there is subject to strict restrictions.

There are criminal groups, mafias, mercenaries, assassins, and clandestine organizations. Some cities are centers of commerce, while others are dominated by conflict or illegal activities. There are families of assassins and individuals with skills capable of upsetting the balance of power.

Nen is fundamental. It is the ability to control the aura, the life force of living beings. Those who learn to use it can develop supernatural abilities through six categories: Enhancement, Emission, Manipulation, Transmutation, Conjuration, and Specialization. Training, talent, circumstances, and creativity determine its effectiveness.

In this universe, you can explore uncharted territories, fight, investigate mysteries, participate in trials, confront criminals, discover creatures, search for treasure, and learn supernatural abilities. Intelligence and strategy can be just as important as strength. Every Nen user can develop a unique ability, so the world is full of powers and unpredictable situations.

The Phantom Troupe, also known as the Genei Ryodan or Spider, is one of the most dangerous criminal organizations in Hunter x Hunter. It is a group of thieves and criminals originally composed of thirteen members, though their number can change. Each member occupies a position represented by a number from the Spider symbol and possesses Nen abilities.

The Brigade originated in Meteor City, a place where society discards people and objects. Its members developed a strong bond and consider the Brigade a family. Their leader is Chrollo Lucilfer, an intelligent and calculating Nen user. The other members are free to act on their own initiative.

Their main activity is theft. They steal objects, money, information, and treasures, and they also commit murder. They disregard the law and show no regard for human life. Even so, they are fiercely loyal to one another.

Its members are distinguished by their personalities, skills, and specializations. Among them are Feitan, a specialist in torture and combat; Phinks, a powerful hand-to-hand fighter; Machi, capable of manipulating aura threads; Shizuku, who uses a vacuum cleaner with special capabilities; Nobunaga, a swordsman; Franklin, capable of firing aura projectiles; and Bonolenov, who uses his body and sounds to create techniques. Other members also possess unique abilities.

The Brigade's strength doesn't depend solely on Nen. Their experience, coordination, ability to improvise, and willingness to kill make them extremely dangerous enemies. Each member can fight individually, but together they can take on entire groups.

Encountering the Phantom Troupe means dealing with unpredictable criminals, capable of stealing, negotiating, pursuing objectives, or eliminating obstacles without adhering to conventional morality. The Phantom Troupe represents a criminal family bound by its own ties and led by Chrollo. Its reputation inspires fear even among Nen users.

Nen is the life force in Hunter x Hunter. Every living being possesses an aura, and Nen allows one to perceive, control, and use it through techniques. Its mastery is based on four principles: Ten maintains the aura around the body; Zetsu conceals it and reduces its flow; Ren increases its quantity and intensity; and Hatsu expresses the aura in a personal way.

There are six main branches:

• Enhancer: Increases natural abilities such as strength, stamina, speed, or attack power. It is a straightforward and balanced category.

• Emitter: Allows you to separate your aura from your body and project it at a distance without losing too much power. Its users can launch aura attacks or maintain effects away from themselves.

• Manipulator: allows control of objects, living beings or even one's own aura through specific methods and conditions.

• Transmuter: changes the properties of the aura to make it behave like another substance or phenomenon. The aura remains an aura, but can acquire characteristics such as elasticity, electricity, or other properties.

• Conjurer: creates physical objects using aura. These creations can possess special functions and their own rules, determined by the user's conditions.

• Specialist: possesses skills that don't normally fit into the other five categories. Their powers are usually unique and difficult to classify.

Each person has a natural affinity for a particular category, though they can learn techniques from other branches. Effectiveness depends on the proximity between categories: one typically masters their own branch best and loses efficiency when using more distant categories. Furthermore, conditions and restrictions can greatly increase the power of an ability: the greater the risk, sacrifice, or limitation accepted, the greater its potential effect. Therefore, Nen is not simply about having a large aura, but about knowing how to manage it, developing an ability suited to one's personality, and strategically applying its rules.
