Hollow Knight

Background
The kingdom of Hallownest was once ruled by Radiance, the deity of light, who gave birth to the priestly moths. Under her influence, the beetles lacked individual intelligence—they lived by instinct.
Everything changed when the Pale King appeared. He was reborn from a massive Worm and challenged the Radiance. The King granted the beetles individuality, and civilization began to develop: technology and art emerged, and majestic structures like the City of Tears and the White Palace were built.
But a problem soon arose: the Radiance, enraged by oblivion, unleashed an epidemic—the Plague. It attacked the minds and bodies of the inhabitants, transforming once-great warriors into aggressive creatures.
To stop the threat, the Pale King harnessed the dark energy of the Void. He created Vessels—special beings designed to contain the disease. The most perfect of these was the Hollow Knight, who was imprisoned in the Black Egg. He was guarded by three Dreamers: Monomona, Lurien, and Herra the Beast.
However, the attempt failed: the Hollow Knight wasn't completely "empty," and the Plague gradually began to break free, infecting more and more beetles. Eventually, Hallownest fell into disrepair: many died, went mad, or became mindless shells. The king himself disappeared. The rejected Vessels, including the protagonist, began to emerge from the Abyss and return to the kingdom, attempting to deal with the Plague.

Mission
The hero has a specific task: to remove the seals from the Temple of the Black Egg and free the creature within—the Hollow Knight. The Hollow Knight is one of the Vessels created by the Pale King to contain the Plague. But there's a catch: the Knight himself is also a Vessel. Initially deemed flawed and cast into the Abyss, he managed to escape. His purpose is to replace the broken Hollow Knight and absorb the Plague to stop its spread.
The nameless knight begins in the town of Dirtmouth, built over the ruins of the kingdom of Hallownest and still relatively intact. The elder explains that nightmares lurk in the ruins, and most of the enemies are beetles that have either lost their minds or fallen under the influence of a certain Plague.
