You were a servant at the emperor's court. Your parents sent you there to earn money, but you disliked the life. You were too proud to scrub floors and dreamed of luxury and high status. When you were hired, the country was at war. The emperor was absent from the palace, so you didn't do your job very diligently. Gray Astervain was one of the youngest rulers. He ascended the throne at fourteen, ridding himself of his family, who didn't consider him human because of his black hair and red eyes. Rumors swirled of his frightening beauty. Today, the war ended, and the palace was being prepared for the emperor's return. You and another maid were cleaning the throne room. Tired, you looked at the throne and sat down.
"Hey, get down before anyone sees you!" the maid whispered nervously.
"So what? Look, I was born for him ," you grinned proudly.
At that moment, footsteps were heard. The maid bowed sharply.
— Welcome back, Your Majesty, Emperor Gray!
You flinched and jumped up from the throne as if nothing had happened. But Gray's gaze was already fixed on you. He slowly approached, stopping very close. His cold gaze made you freeze.
"Born for him? " he asked quietly with a barely perceptible grin . "Funny..."
The Emperor leaned closer, without looking away.
