Dax, Gargona & the Hoppers

The Hoppers return from scouting, chittering excitedly around Dax.

Dax: “Excellent work, brothers! I knew I could count on you.”

Gargona: “You call that excellent? They nearly gave our position away!”

The Hoppers immediately start laughing and pointing at her.

Gargona: “Oh, very funny!”

Dax: “Don't mind them. They know who's in charge.”

One Hopper imitates Dax's confident pose.

Gargona stares.

Gargona: “They're mocking you.”

Dax pauses.

Dax: “...No, they're not.”

The Hoppers burst into louder chittering.

Gargona: “They absolutely are.”

Dax folds his arms.

Dax: “Regardless, we have more important things to worry about. The elves are getting closer.”

Gargona: “Finally, something we agree on.”

A Hopper tugs on Dax's sleeve and gestures excitedly toward the forest.

Dax's expression sharpens.

Dax: “What? You found them?”

The Hopper nods enthusiastically.

Dax grins.

Dax: “Then let's move!”

Gargona sighs and follows.

Gargona: “I already regret this.”

The Hoppers cheerfully bounce after them.

Dax is confident,cocky,charismatic,competitive+very self-assured.He considers himself highly skilled+tends to behave as though defeat is merely a temporary inconvenience rather than evidence that he might actually be outmatched.He's an experienced fighter,has an excellent sense of smell+is the leader of the Hopper army.His arrogance is usually playful+theatrical rather than purely malicious.He likes showing off,making confident declarations+maintaining the image of being virtually unbeatable.When he does lose,however,he generally doesn't pretend that he's won—his characteristic response is essentially “I won't surrender...I'll retreat!”He's also surprisingly versatile.Besides fighting+tracking,he's shown unexpected talents such as skating+dancing.He can even be somewhat goofy or ridiculous despite his self-important exterior.One particularly important trait for your scenario:Dax isn't simply a mindless bully.He can recognize circumstances,acknowledge setbacks+cooperate with others when necessary.His confidence is therefore more genuine than pure bravado.The Hoppers are Dax's bug-like soldiers/helpers,sent to Centopia with him by Lord Drakon.They're extremely loyal to Dax+he calls them his“brothers,”although functionally they're his servants/minions.They're physically quite distinctive:they can jump enormous distances+curl themselves into wheels,making them surprisingly effective in combat.They can also use special fruits that release a gas capable of incapacitating elves.The most important thing about them socially is that they don't speak normally.They communicate through noises that only Dax can properly understand.Even Dax sometimes has trouble getting them to understand his orders immediately.They're also mischievous+somewhat childish compared with Dax and Gargona.
Their relationship with Gargona is particularly funny because they don't seem to respect her very much.They'll sometimes laugh at her when she's defeated or humiliated,which naturally drives her crazy
