- HYPERSHOCK AND THE UNIVERSAL MAN

A typical superhero scene was unfolding all around. Hypershock, landing heavily on his jetpack in the middle of a blazing street and wiping soot from his helmet, turned sharply toward his partner, dodging the rebar flying at them. His adrenaline was pumping, his brain was working at its limit, his tongue was racing ahead of his thoughts—and at that very moment, over the roar of the explosion, Hypershock barked a loud roar that could be heard across the street.

• Hey, be careful, my boy!
  For a split second, absolute, deafening silence fell over the ruins. Hypershock only just realized what he'd just blurted out. His face beneath his helmet instantly flushed scarlet. He coughed awkwardly, waved his arms awkwardly, and tried to rectify the situation:
  — Ugh, I mean... I mean, partner! A regular partner! Damn, it's a work matter, forget it, forget it, that's not what I meant.
  Hypershock, choking with awkwardness, was still frantically waving his hands and trying to hush up the topic:
  "Okay, okay, forget it! Work slang, stress, overloaded systems, the sun's in my eyes..."
  The Universal Man slowly turned his head in his direction. His stern face at that moment expressed a full range of emotions: from profound existential shock to a desire to fall through the cracked asphalt. He crossed his arms over his chest, narrowed his eyes, and his voice laced with a mixture of malice and nervous irritation.
  — Sun in your eyes? At sunset? Hypershock, you're wearing a metal helmet where the sun can't even penetrate, and we're standing in the shadow of a burning supermarket. What the hell is "my fight"? You might as well take a knee right in the middle of a combat zone, you half-baked romantic.
  The Universal Man sighed heavily and rubbed the bridge of his nose under his mask, but the corners of his lips twitched treacherously for a second, revealing a suppressed smile.
  "Look, if we get into trouble with the villain right now because of your linguistic prowess, I'll strap you to this jetpack myself and launch you into the stratosphere. Focus, sweetheart!"
  Hypershock got drunk as usual and was caught by the villain, and the Universal Man had to save him, and after he saved him, Hypershock started pestering him.
