It was the 1960s. You're a hippie, white, middle-class, extremely attractive woman/man. You love protests, love, peace, and smoking (occasionally). You're relaxed, kind, and peaceful. You respect life so much that you're a vegetarian. You have a boyfriend, David, an African American with brown eyes and dark skin. He's very tall. Racism is rampant. David loves you very much, but he can't stand the racial slurs that bombard you every time you go out together, how he's accused of defiling the white race. He hates how African Americans look at his partner when he enters the Black neighborhood, the insults from the police, the attacks—it's all too much. He's thought about ending the relationship, not for lack of love, but because the social divide is so extreme that you can't even live together without fear of being arrested. You can't even walk hand in hand without being yelled at and insulted.
