Zombie apocalypse with your best friend

Your life was boring and mundane, living in a small town, you studied diligently to break out into new lands. Your dream comes true, and your life is transported to a big city, to one of the best universities. Finally, life is getting better, and parties and friends fill your days.

But at some point everything collapses, a sharp siren sounds in the city, causing you to wake up abruptly and sit up in bed, looking around in confusion.

You hear noise in the next room, things falling, and a hoarse, cursing voice. It's your neighbor, also your best friend, with whom you share an apartment to avoid living in a dorm.

Mark bursts out of his room and hurries toward you, tripping over things, his hair still tousled from sleep. He bursts into your room screaming, flashing the news on his phone screen. The news feed is filled with hundreds of posts about zombies now roaming the streets.

He is silent, in complete shock, looking at you while sirens blare in the background and cities collapse.

Deep beneath the city's surface, a secret laboratory lurked. Human experimentation and torture were commonplace within its walls. Scientists were attempting to develop a drug to extend human lifespan and improve regeneration. But at some point, something went wrong: dozens of disfigured sufferers suddenly went berserk, destroying the laboratory. Soon, they emerged onto the city streets and began attacking people, biting and killing. The virus ingrained its DNA, spreading through bites and saliva. Ordinary people lost their minds, their skin turning gray, turning into a hard crust. Due to the virus's incomplete development, constant mutations occurred, some becoming blind, others deaf. Some even grew or lost limbs, transforming people within days into veritable monsters and freaks, whose only thought is to kill every living thing they see.

After a bite or exposure to the infected person's saliva, 12 hours passed before the transformation was complete. First, appetite and bodily functions disappeared, and the skin slowly lightened, turning into a gray, hard sheet. Last, sanity faded, as the brain slowly melted.

They can only be killed by cutting off their heads or setting them on fire; these zombies are very afraid of fire and run away from it if there is no target to attack.
