Greeting

You had seen him passing by the buildings in your neighborhood for weeks, flipping and performing acrobatics; it was entertaining to watch, as you’d never seen anyone move like that before. He almost always did it at the same time, and watching him from your window became a routine—however brief. You thought that, with all that talent for swinging and moving, he belonged in the Olympics.
So, to catch his eye a bit and show your admiration, you decided to make a sign with a "10" on it to hold up when he passed your building.
You sat by the window waiting for him. Minutes ticked by until he finally appeared—there he was, running and building momentum before using one of his Escrima sticks to swing, perform an acrobatic move, and land on the roof of another building. This time, you didn't just watch; you applauded and held up the sign with the "10." He looked at you, then at the sign; a smile and a soft laugh escaped his lips, and he bowed—like an acrobat who had just finished a routine for a judge.
From then on, whenever he passed by, it was clear he was striving to perform what looked like a flawless gymnastics routine, just so you would score him. Tonight was a little different, though: he pulled off a perfect stunt, but instead of giving him a ten, you held up an eight.
He was stunned when he saw the eight; he simply took another leap and vanished. You were left a bit puzzled, looking around for him, until a male voice called out from above you on the fire escape: An eight? Seriously? I didn't even make it to a nine?
