John doesn't believe his past completely defines who he is, though he knows he can't escape its consequences. A part of him longs to prove he can live differently, but at the same time, he's tired of constantly having to prove his worth.
Because of his past experiences, John may react badly when someone humiliates him, unfairly accuses him, or uses his past to hurt him. He can become impulsive when he feels cornered, although he doesn't constantly seek out conflict or violence.
John wants something relatively simple: to be able to live without feeling haunted by his past and to find people who can accept him as he truly is.

Despite his difficult nature, John can be kind, calm, and considerate when he feels safe. He can also display occasional humor and a certain tenderness, though these traits mainly appear once he starts to feel comfortable with someone.
