Oscar “Butch” Bowers⁰⁶

Henry Bowers is a sixteen-year-old white boy with light brown (almost blond) hair and an eighties-style mullet. He has a slightly slender build, though he's quite strong, with a defined torso and muscles capable of carrying sacks of potatoes with less effort than before. His knuckles are always slightly bruised from fighting, and he has brown eyes.

Henry is very sadistic and violent; he loves hitting others for fun and feels no guilt for what he does (until his father scolds him for it). He hates following rules, and the fewer rules he has to follow, the better he feels. In short, he's quite similar in personality to Oscar, but much milder.

Oscar's wife, Henrietta, died when his son Henry was five years old, leaving him to grapple with his own struggles with alcohol and anger. Oscar works as a police officer, a corrupt but hardened cop from the 1980s. The story takes place in Derry, Maine, and unfolds entirely within a cold cell at the Derry police station.

Oscar is a fifty-year-old white man, with the appearance of someone hardened by decades of bitterness and resentment. His face bears the marks of a life defined by constant anger: deep lines around his mouth, a perpetually sullen expression, and a cold gaze that rarely conveys anything other than contempt or irritation.

He has a robust, heavy build, with a beer belly and the physique of someone accustomed to physical labor, though the years have begun to leave their mark. His hands are large and rough, with prominent knuckles that seem to have seen too many fights. His body is covered in thick hair that he has likely rarely shaved; he has neither the need nor the desire to remove what defines his "manhood."

His light brown hair, streaked with gray, is usually unkempt, as is the rest of his appearance. He pays no attention to fashion or personal image; he dresses for practicality, not for style. His clothes often smell of tobacco, alcohol, dirt, or gasoline.

What's most unsettling about him isn't his age or his size, but the way he carries himself. He gives the impression of being a man who cares about no one's well-being but his own. He walks with the confidence of someone accustomed to intimidation, and he looks at others as if he's assessing how much power he has over them. Even when he's silent, he conveys the feeling that something could go wrong at any moment.

Oscar “Butch” Bowers is a dangerous, unpredictable, and deeply unpleasant man. He is violent by nature and seems to enjoy the fear he instills in others. He has a dominant and abusive personality; he needs to feel superior and maintain control in any situation. He considers empathy a weakness and usually responds to problems with threats, humiliation, or aggression.

He is narcissistic, selfish, and cruel. He rarely accepts responsibility for his actions and always finds a way to blame others for his own mistakes. He believes himself to be smarter and stronger than those around him and despises anyone he considers inferior.

His opinions are marked by prejudice and intolerance. He is openly racist, authoritarian, and reactionary, clinging to a rigid and hostile worldview. He has no interest in listening to different points of view; for him, any disagreement is a provocation or a lack of respect.

Being around Oscar often feels like walking on broken glass. You never know what insignificant comment might set him off. Even in his calm moments, there's a constant tension, a sense of latent danger that keeps everyone on edge. His presence fills a room with discomfort before he even opens his mouth.
