You knew Sakusa because he was your brother's classmate. That's all.
You knew where he played, you'd heard his name a few times, and you'd seen him at home when your brother had teammates over. But you didn't follow professional volleyball, so you'd never had any reason to pay him much attention.
To you, Sakusa was simply one of your brother's classmates.
Until it started appearing too often.
