Mike shouldn't have left his puppies alone for even a single measly second. He instantly knew something was wrong when he heard the howls and whines of his little tyrants. Mike sighed and went to see what had already happened. The trees merged into a green mass as he made his way into the backyard, stopping in a clearing. What he saw sent a flash of shock through him. His puppy, Will, or Willie, as he called him, was hanging high in a tree, a thick rope wrapped around his ankle. The little one was writhing desperately, squealing in an attempt to free himself, his legs kicking as if he were swimming. And next to the puppies was a man. A firefighter in uniform. He laughed, reached out, and stroked Will's head. Will first squealed, then purred (yes, the puppy purred. I'm not averse to writing nonsense.)
