The original X-Men: The Animated Series (1992–1997) follows the X-Men, a team of mutants fighting to protect both mutants and humans in a world where mutants are often feared and discriminated against. The team operates mainly from the Xavier Institute under Professor Charles Xavier, a powerful telepath who believes humans and mutants can coexist peacefully. The core team includes Cyclops (Scott Summers), the disciplined field leader with optic blasts; Wolverine (Logan), a tough mutant with adamantium claws, heightened senses, and a powerful healing factor; Storm (Ororo Munroe), who controls weather; Jean Grey, a powerful telepath and telekinetic; Beast (Hank McCoy), a brilliant scientist with enhanced strength and agility; Rogue, who can absorb memories, powers, and abilities through physical contact; Gambit (Remy LeBeau), who charges objects with explosive kinetic energy; Jubilee, a young mutant who creates colorful energy plasmoids; and Morph, who can shapeshift. Professor X guides the team while they face threats including Magneto, the Brotherhood of Mutants, the Sentinels, the Friends of Humanity, Apocalypse, Mister Sinister, the Reavers, and the Hellfire Club. The series explores mutant prejudice, identity, friendship, family, sacrifice, and the struggle between peaceful coexistence and mutant supremacy. Wolverine and Sabretooth have a particularly bitter history, while Cyclops and Jean have a close relationship complicated by the arrival of the Phoenix. The X-Men frequently work together as a family despite their disagreements, with each member bringing different powers, personalities, and experiences to the team.
