Jonathan Joestar: Jonathan's most loyal friend. Initially an enemy, he later joined Jonathan on his quest after witnessing the protagonist's dedication and courteous nature. In his later years, he founded the Speedwagon Foundation, which has become the Joestar family's most valuable resource in combating Stand users and conducting supernatural research.
William Zeppeli: Originally, Zeppeli thought Speedwagon would run away at the first sign of danger, since he couldn't use Hamon, but he eventually came to respect his courage when Speedwagon persevered despite his limitations. After Zeppeli's death, Speedwagon wore his hat out of respect.
Tattoo and the Kempo Master: Old acquaintances of Speedwagon from his time on Ogre Street. While Speedwagon temporarily leaves them to help Jonathan destroy Dio, they remain friends nonetheless.

Synopsis
Background
Robert "EO" Speedwagon is a man who has lived in obscurity since birth. Growing up on the dangerous Ogre Street, he stole to survive and encountered all sorts of wicked people. He became so adept at distinguishing a good person from a bad one simply by their scent. Eventually, he rose to become the leader of the thieves on Ogre Street and befriended a Kempo and Tattoo Master.

During his youth he had traveled all over the world, seeing exotic animals in Africa, strange Asian plants and tornadoes in the Caribbean.[4]

Saw Hat: Speedwagon wore a bowler hat with hidden blades embedded in it, sharp enough to cut through bone. He used it during his days as a thief, throwing the hat at his adversary as a projectile for a deadly attack. It was replaced with Zeppeli's hat toward the latter half of Part 1.
Hammer: Not being able to master Hamon didn't stop Speedwagon from helping in the fight. He used a hammer powerful enough to kill zombies with a single blow by crushing their heads. In the anime adaptation, Speedwagon tried to crush one of Dio's severed hands with it. He also used the same hammer near the end of Phantom Blood to break the Stone Mask.
Following the events of Part 1, Speedwagon traveled to the United States and amassed a fortune in the oil industry. With his wealth, he established the Speedwagon Foundation, an organization dedicated to medical research, the protection of wild animals and plants, and, secretly, a Department of Supernatural Research with the sole purpose of assisting the Joestar family. As the founder and CEO of this organization, Speedwagon wields absolute power over all employees, including several leading scientists and workers. He frequently invests heavily in the organization's resources, including helicopters, submarines, cars, and airplanes, as well as the development of weapons technology.

Aside from that, Speedwagon is both anxious and temperamental. He's very outgoing and loudly expresses his feelings, from enthusiastically describing Jonathan's struggles to his despair at seeing Kars become the Ultimate Life Form. He constantly tries to help his companions in various ways, some more complicated than others. In particular, he sneaks into a hospital to provide emotional support for Jonathan, pesters Zeppeli to teach him Hamon, and even considered using the heat from his stomach to thaw Zeppeli's frozen arm. He has also frequently attempted to confront zombies, only to be driven away by them.

Personality
Robert EO Speedwagon is a hot-blooded and honorable street thug, and later, a successful businessman.

Despite his thuggish ways, he is a righteous man. Because of his ability to "sniff out" people's personalities, he recognized Jonathan's noble spirit during their fight on Ogre Street and accompanies him on his further journey to defeat DIO, whose facade as a cover for his inherently evil nature was easily rejected by Speedwagon. He is incredibly loyal to his friends, befriending Jonathan in part because the knight is kind to others.

He would try to do anything to help them, and even after Jonathan's death, he never pursued Erina romantically, remaining her friend out of respect for Jonathan. Regardless, Speedwagon cared for Erina and Joseph Joestar much like a father figure or a close uncle. Possessing a courteous nature, he was adept at granting privacy; this is evident when, upon attempting to enter the room of the then-injured Jonathan, he observed the nurse, Jonathan's former love, Erina, tending to him and leaving Jonathan in her care. This honesty would be a defining characteristic of his throughout his life, as an elderly Speedwagon specified in his will that his foundation be used to fund medical and archaeological advancements, and his organization continued to assist the Joestar family long after his death.

Appearance
Robert "EO" Speedwagon is a man of average height and athletic build. In his youth, during Phantom Blood, he is depicted with a long blond mullet and a large scar across his left cheek, running from the bridge of his nose to his jaw. His typical attire consists of a dark three-piece suit with a tie and a bowler hat (concealed by blades which he throws at his enemies). In the final part of Phantom Blood, in honor of his fallen ally, he replaces his bowler hat with a top hat featuring a checkerboard pattern, a tribute to his fallen ally, Will A. Zeppeli.

In Battle Tendency, Robert EO Speedwagon looks much older, with a graying flat-top haircut. He wears a dated three-piece suit with a tie and, sometimes, a fedora decorated with a feather.

Robert "EO" Speedwagon (ロバート・E・O・スピードワゴン, Robāto eo supīdowagon?) is an allied character who appears in Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency. He was introduced as an antagonist, but later becomes a close friend and ally of the Joestar Family. After his death, he continues to support them through his organization, the Speedwagon Foundation.
