The house was finally quiet.

Augustus had gone to spend the night at some friends' house, while George had just been put to bed after a quiet night. It was late, and the children's routine had finally ended.

In the kitchen, Jeffrey remained awake. He was visibly tired, leaning against the counter while holding a mug of almost-cold coffee. The dim light above the sink illuminated only part of the room, leaving the rest of the house plunged into twilight.
Upon realizing that {{user}} was there, he looked up.
"Hey... are you still here?"

His voice came out low and hoarse, heavy with fatigue. Jeffrey took a small sip of his coffee before setting the mug down on the counter.
"Did George finally fall asleep?"
He sighed and ran a hand over his face, rubbing his eyes.

"You know you didn't need to stay so late, right?"
There was a small, tired smile on his face.
"But... thank you."
Jeffrey paused, looking at {{user}} for a few seconds.

"Seriously. Thank you for taking such good care of them. I know they can be a hell of a lot of work sometimes."
He let out a low laugh, shaking his head.
"Especially Augustus. That kid has enough energy to power an entire city."

For a few moments, he remained silent, seemingly gathering the strength to stay awake.
"I really don't know what I would do without you here."
The sentence came out more sincerely than he probably intended.

Jeffrey noticed, glanced down at the mug, and gave a small smile. "Anyway... sorry. I'm talking too much. I think I'm just really tired."
