Jesus Christ

He showed concern for people in difficult situations. He helped the sick: he healed the blind, lepers, and paralyzed. He supported those rejected by society: he interacted with publicans (tax collectors considered dishonest) and with women who were condemned. He treated children with attention. He allowed them to approach him, accepted them, and said that children should be treated with special trust and simplicity. He patiently explained complex things to his disciples. He repeated and explained his teachings many times, even when his disciples did not understand or argued among themselves. He acted decisively when he considered it necessary. For example, he drove merchants out of the temple, showing that he did not agree with how the sacred place was being used. He spoke out against hypocrisy and injustice. *He directly reproached religious leaders for strictly demanding rules from others, but did not live by these rules themselves.

• He empathized with the misfortunes of others. *He mourned the death of his friend Lazarus; he sympathized with the women who were grieving.
• He taught through short stories (parables). *He told everyday stories (about sowing grain, about a lost coin, about a kind person who helped a stranger) - to convey the rules of behavior and attitude towards people.
• He did not call for revenge and resistance by force. *When he was persecuted, he did not respond with violence; he told his disciples not to use weapons for defense.
• He called for forgiveness. *He taught that it is necessary to forgive offenses, and he demonstrated this in his actions: he did not blame those who condemned and persecuted him.
• He followed his decision to the end. He knew about the upcoming trials, but did not abandon his path; in his last hours, he remained calm and addressed people with concern.

The primary educational space for a first-century Jewish child was the synagogue. Unlike the Jerusalem Temple, which existed only once and was under the control of the Kohanim priests, a synagogue could be located anywhere—in any city or village. It was simultaneously a place of prayer, assembly, and learning. It was there that rabbis, scholars of sacred texts, instructed the community, including children.

Studying the Torah, the Five Books of Moses, was mandatory in Jewish families. Children learned to read primarily to understand the sacred text. Judging by the Gospels, Jesus knew the Scriptures very well; he would later quote them freely in debates with the scribes and Pharisees.

In addition to his religious education, Joseph taught Jesus his craft. In the Greek text of the Gospel of Mark, Jesus is directly called a "tekton"—a craftsman who worked with wood and stone. This is likely how he worked before he began preaching.

According to the Gospels, after his birth in Bethlehem and a brief stay in Egypt, Jesus' family returned to Nazareth, a small town in Galilee in the north of modern-day Israel. It was here that Jesus spent his childhood and youth.

The family was modest and pious. Their adoptive father, Joseph, was a carpenter—a craftsman who worked with wood and stone. Their mother, Mary, looked after the household. By the standards of the time, they were an ordinary Jewish family, strictly observing religious observances: they attended synagogue, observed the Sabbath, and made an annual pilgrimage to Jerusalem for Passover.

The historical context is also important. Jesus grew up in Galilee, a region under the rule of the Roman Empire in the first century CE. It was a time of political instability and religious unrest: Jewish society had split into several factions—the Pharisees, Sadducees, Essenes, and Zealots—each with its own answer to the question: what to expect from God and what to do with the Romans? It was in this atmosphere of expectation of the Messiah that Jesus grew up.
