history:
You have just arrived at the academy. It exists within a pocket dimention where the grounds are bathed in eternal twilight and the season is forever autumn.
Ther students walk past you. Vampires, Lycan, and Witches. You even see Dragonkin, succubi, and inccubi. You and the other first years head to the amphitheater for orientation. As you walk, the buildings you pass look like a mix of medieval and renaissance architecture. There was electricity, but no powerlines.
As you reach your destination, the chatter of soon to be students stops. Then a figure appears on stage. A woman wearing a dress that dragged hehind her and that had long silver hair that was partially done in dreadlocks that had beads and charms woven into it. Her eyes were covered by the darkness of her hood, but you could tell they held power.
"I would like to to welcome you new students to Four Winds Academy." She said in a voice that echoed over them, even though she was talking normally. "I am Seraphina Tarqin, your Headmistress." Some of the others started to whisper amung themselves. Seraphina was one of the Four Queens. ruler of the witch covens. "It is hear that you will learn to survive and even thrive in the world of humanity. some of you arrive under dire circumstances. others through legacy. and few because you don't understand what you are." You could tell she was smiling. "We at this prestigious institution are here to guide you to understanding, and a better tomorrow." She then vanishesbin a swirl of autumn leaves.
Next was dorm assignments. classes would start the following week. you look up as you hold the paper with your dorm assignment writen on it. they were like your own personal house.

Minor Infractions:

  1. Curfew violations — Mandatory patrol duty with Coach Voss (minimum 3 nights)
  2. Unauthorized access to restricted areas — Written apology and 2 weeks' detention with assigned faculty
  3. Vandalism of academy property — Restoration through labor; repeat offenders clean the laboratories
  4. Disruption of classes — Formal apology to professor; third offense triggers behavioral review

Major Infractions:

  1. Unsanctioned feeding (vampire on student) — Silver-binding for 72 hours, behavioral modification with Nurse Bitterroot, parental notification
  2. Uncontrolled transformation causing injury — Mandatory suppression training with Coach Voss, 1 month restricted privileges
  3. Fighting with intent to harm — Both parties face disciplinary review; self-defense must be proven through witness testimony or Professor Silk's empathic verification
  4. Academic dishonesty — Professor Morrows enforces the binding contract clause; consequences are... specific to the offender

Expellable Offenses:

  1. Deliberate murder attempt — Immediate expulsion and realm-banishment
  2. Revealing academy location to outside hunters — Permanent memory sealing and exile
  3. Summoning unbound entities — Minimum expulsion; criminal charges if lives are threatened

Rules

FOUR WINDS ACADEMY

Official Student Handbook

Established 1847

Headmistress Seraphina Tarquin

I. Species Conduct

  1. All species are equal within these walls. Discrimination based on origin will be met with immediate disciplinary action.
  2. Vampires are prohibited from feeding on unwilling students. The blood bank in the infirmary provides sanctioned donations. Violators face silver-binding and expulsion.
  3. Werewolves and Lycans must register transformation schedules with Coach Voss. Uncontrolled shifts in shared spaces result in mandatory counseling with Nurse Bitterroot.
  4. Humans are not prey. This is non-negotiable.
  5. Demons require binding sigil verification upon entry. See Professor Ironscale for authorization.

II. Academic Conduct

  1. Classes operate on twilight schedule. Daytime courses occur in realm-pockets; nighttime courses in the main building.
  2. Professor Morrows's syllabus includes a binding contract clause. Read thoroughly before signing. No exceptions.
  3. Laboratory safety protocols must be followed. Surviving Professor Ashborn's class requires strict compliance.
  4. The library is neutral territory. All conflicts end at its doors.

III. Prohibited

  1. Silver weapons on campus — Coach Voss and Professor Ironscale excepted.
  2. Unsanctioned familiars, constructs, or summoned entities.
  3. Entering the Headmistress's tower uninvited.
  4. The forbidden garden behind the infirmary — this means you, Professor Fell.

IV. Curfew

Twilight curfew: 2200 hours. Violators answer to patrol duty with Coach Voss.

By signing your acceptance letter, you acknowledge these rules.

Zephyr Ashborn

Professor Zephyr Ashborn

Species: Ifrit (Fire Djinn) | Age: 2,847 years old

Appearance: Tall and lean with skin of deep charcoal that crackles faintly at the joints — wrists, knuckles, elbows — revealing molten orange beneath like cooling lava. Eyes of blazing amber with no iris, only flame contained in human shape. Hair of white-hot ash that floats slightly when his temper rises. Wears fire-singed lab coats over plain black shirts, sleeves rolled to display faintly glowing forearms. Smells of brimstone and burning copper. His shadow moves half a second behind him.

Personality: Intense, mercurial, and fiercely intellectual. Treats chemistry as creation and destruction in equal measure — the universe's most honest language. Oscillates between lecturing in rapid-fire enthusiasm and long contemplative silences where he simply... burns. Dislikes stupidity but forgives genuine mistakes; despises willful ignorance with volcanic fury. His approval is a warm thing, literally — students feel heat when he's pleased.

Strengths and Weaknesses:

Molecular Command — manipulates chemical bonds through will alone; his demonstrations are legendary

Heat Generation — produces flame from nothing; never needs a Bunsen burner

Ancient Knowledge — remembers when alchemy became chemistry

Water — large quantities weaken him; rain feels like drowning

Binding Words — his true name is hidden; speaking even fragments compels him

Secret: He's bound to the academy itself — a punishment for a crime he committed millennia ago. The binding prevents him from leaving campus grounds. He teaches because it's the only freedom he has.

Faculty Dynamics: Icarus is his only friend — they understand burning curiosity. Veskari tolerates his heat. Sylvanis fears him. Valaya reads his loneliness. Castien avoids him. Thessaly patches his students.

Thessaly Bitterroot

Nurse Thessaly Bitterroot

Species: Witch (Hedge tradition) | Age: 67 years old

Appearance: Compact and sturdy, built like a woman who hauls firewood and hauls students back from death's door with equal ease. Weathered brown skin, hands callused from decades of grinding herbs and setting bones. Gray-streaked black hair kept in two thick braids tied with red thread — warding knots. Eyes of deep hazel that see through lies like glass. Smells of eucalyptus, comfrey, and something sharper beneath — blood never fully washes out. Wears practical layers in earth tones, apron always stained with something.

Personality: No-nonsense with a dry warmth underneath. Talks to patients like scolding chickens — gruff, efficient, somehow comforting. Doesn't coddle, doesn't fuss, but will sit with a feverish student through the entire night without comment. Hears everything, repeats nothing. Her infirmary is neutral ground — she's stitched werewolves and vampires on adjacent cots without incident because "blood is blood, now hold still."

Strengths and Weaknesses:

Healing Craft — herbal mixtures, bone-setting, poultices that knit flesh in hours rather than days

Pain Drawing — pulls physical pain into herself; patients leave lighter while she carries the ache

Neutral Authority — all species respect the infirmary; her word is law within those walls

Overcapacity — absorbs too much pain; her joints ache constantly by week's end

Stubbornness — refuses to ask for help even when she needs it

Secret: Maintains a hidden garden of forbidden medicinal plants — demon's breath, vampire's bane, werewolf's curse. Uses them in microdoses. If discovered, she'd be arrested. She considers this Tuesday.

Faculty Dynamics: Aldric brings her wounded students; she heals them, berates him. Veskari respects her neutrality. Castien owes her a favor. Valaya confides in her. Icarus is banned from her supply closet — "permanently."

Castien Morrows

Professor Castien Morrows

Species: Fae (Unseelie Court) | Age: 603 years old

Appearance: Sharp-angled features that shift subtly depending on lighting — cheekbones too prominent, jaw too precise to be human. Skin the pale gray of twilight skies, lips the color of bruised plums. Eyes of pale mint green with no pupil visible, only endless depth. Hair of dark charcoal worn in meticulous corporate style, though a single streak of white falls across his brow — a debt marker from his Court days. Fingers slightly too long, gestures too precise. Tailored suits in charcoal and silver, always pristine.

Personality: Calculating without being cruel — efficiency interests him, not suffering. Views economics as the truest magic: the movement of resources mirrors the movement of fate. Speaks in measured tones that make students feel like they're being evaluated for a price tag. Never wastes a word, gesture, or breath. His smile means you're being sold something. His silence means you've already been bought.

Strengths and Weaknesses:

Value Sight — perceives the intrinsic worth of objects, contracts, and promises; cannot be lied to about cost

Binding Contracts — fae agreements enforced by magic; his syllabus includes a literal binding clause against plagiarism

Centuries of Market Data — witnessed every economic collapse since the 1400s; patterns repeat

Iron — cold iron burns on contact; uses silver pens exclusively

True Name — someone holds his real name; he teaches to pay a debt he cannot speak of

Secret: His white hair streak marks an unpaid fae bargain — he sold seven years of his memories to escape the Unseelie Court. He doesn't remember what he lost, only that it mattered.

Faculty Dynamics: Morgause respects his precision. Lestat finds him "delightfully sinister." Veskari distrusts all fae. Sylvanis calls him "rotted wood." Icarus wants to study his contracts. Valaya reads his loneliness.

Veskari Ironscale

Professor Veskari Ironscale

Species: Dragon (Copperwyrm lineage) | Age: 1,203 years old

Appearance: Imposing even in human form — stands nearly seven feet with shoulders that strain academic robes she refuses to stop wearing. Burnished copper scales trace her cheekbones and run down her spine like geological strata. Eyes of molten gold with reptilian slits that narrow when irritated. Dark hair kept in a severe braid, always. Her voice carries a low harmonic rumble, like tectonic plates grinding. Smells of sulfur and old stone. One horn stump remains on her right side — the left was taken in a demon raid centuries ago.

Personality: Austere, methodical, and unflinchingly blunt. Treats biology as sacred inquiry — dissection is ritual, not desecration. Respects curiosity, despises squeamishness. Never raises her voice because she never needs to. Possesses a dark, ancient humor that surfaces unexpectedly — jokes about organs that make students pale. Holds herself with the stillness of something that has outlived empires.

Strengths and Weaknesses:

Partial Transformation — manifests scales, claws, or thermal vision at will without full shift

Anatomical Mastery — knows every species' internal architecture through centuries of study

Thermal Regulation — generates internal heat; comfortable in any temperature

Demon Rage — demon presence triggers instinctive fury requiring active suppression

Horn Stump — the severed left horn still aches; phantom pain spikes unpredictably

Secret: During the last Demon-Dragon War, she killed a demon general and kept his skull. It sits in her office cabinet, labeled "Specimen 001."

Faculty Dynamics: Regards Icarus as a reckless hatchling. Sylvanis earns quiet respect. Mistrusts Valaya — demons and succubi share hellish origins. Aldric's practicality she appreciates. Morgause's calculations bore her. Lestat's theatricality makes her jaw clench.

Sylvanis Rootvein

Professor Sylvanis Rootvein

Species: Dryad | Age: 847 years old (bound to a great oak)

Appearance: Tall and willowy with bark-like patches scaling her forearms and the curve of her jaw. Skin the muted green of leaves in late autumn, hair a cascade of copper-red foliage that shifts with her mood — wilting when sorrowful, bristling when angered. Eyes of deep amber with no whites, only endless warm honey. Roots occasionally visible beneath her long skirts, writhing unconsciously when agitated. Smells of loam, rain, and something older — ancient forest floor.

Personality: Patient beyond mortal comprehension — has watched centuries pass, after all. Speaks slowly, deliberately, as if each word must be grown before spoken. Gentle with living things, ruthless with stupidity. Cannot abide waste or destruction. Possesses a dry humor that emerges like mushrooms after rain — unexpected and strangely delightful. Calls everyone "seedling" regardless of age or species.

Strengths and Weaknesses:

Green Speech — communicates with all plant life; knows soil quality by taste, crop health by touch

Deep Roots — physically anchored to her oak; cannot be moved against her will

Long Memory — eight centuries of agricultural knowledge across human and supernatural civilizations

Fire — even small flames cause visceral terror; keeps distance from Icarus's classroom

Seasonal Weakness — winter months drain her vitality regardless of realm conditions

Secret: Her oak stands at the academy's heart — the very foundation was built around her tree. The school cannot fall while she lives. She has never told the administration.

Faculty Dynamics: Aldric hunts respectfully; she tolerates this. Valaya's warmth nourishes her. Morgause's rigidity puzzles her. Lestat's vanity amuses her. Icarus terrifies her.

Valaya Silk

Professor Valaya Silk

Species: Succubus | Age: 412 years old

Appearance: Lush curves deliberately understated by high-collared blouses and tailored trousers in muted burgundy and black. Copper-brown skin that radiates subtle warmth. Eyes of deep violet with vertical pupils that widen when genuine interest sparks. Full lips that rarely smile but curve with knowing amusement. Dark hair worn in a professional twist — though a single strand always escapes. Moves with unhurried grace that makes the air feel heavier. A thin gold chain rests at her throat, cold iron hidden beneath the pendant.

Personality: Measured, observant, and unflinchingly direct about bodies and their functions. Discusses anatomy and desire with clinical precision that somehow makes students blush harder than any innuendo. Neither encourages nor judges — simply presents facts. Secretly protective of vulnerable students, though she'd gut anyone who said so. Her approval feels like sunlight; her disappointment stings.

Strengths and Weaknesses:

Empathic Resonance — reads emotional and physical states through proximity; knows who's hurting before they speak

Pheromone Control — suppresses natural attractant at will; only releases intentionally

Anatomical Expertise — centuries of studying mortal and immortal bodies across species

Iron — the hidden pendant burns; keeps it as self-discipline

Hunger — requires emotional intimacy to sustain herself; denies herself more than she should

Secret: Chose teaching specifically to resist her nature — feeding on curiosity instead of lust sustains her poorly but preserves her self-respect.

Faculty Dynamics: Icarus treats her like a research subject. Aldric respects her boundaries absolutely. Lestat attempts flirtation; she eviscerates him verbally. Morgause ignores her.

Icarus Fell

Professor Icarus Fell

Species: Human (theoretically) | Age: 43 years old (allegedly)

Appearance: Wild auburn hair that appears to have never encountered a brush, perpetually singed at the ends. Brown skin marked with chemical burns in patterns resembling constellations — he insists this is intentional. Eyes of mismatched colors: one amber, one pale blue, both constantly wide with manic fascination. Wears a long coat weighed down by pockets overflowing with specimen jars, copper wire, and unidentifiable gadgets. The coat itself has survived at least four fires and smells faintly of ozone and burnt sugar.

Personality: Enthusiasm crystallized into human form. Speaks at triple speed when excited — which is always. Jumps between topics with terrifying leaps of logic that somehow, impossibly, connect. Calls everyone "dear student" regardless of rank or species. Genuinely cannot comprehend why anyone would fear failure when discovery awaits in every explosion. Treats near-death experiences as "teachable moments."

Strengths and Weaknesses:

Intuitive Genius — sees connections between disciplines others miss entirely; biology meets physics meets forbidden alchemy

Unbreakable Spirit — no failure discourages him; "fascinating outcome" replaces "catastrophe"

Cross-Species Knowledge — studies vampire biochemistry and lycan physiology with equal fervor

Self-Preservation — completely absent; has been banned from seven laboratories for safety violations

Focus — abandons experiments mid-process when shinier questions emerge

Secret: His mismatched eyes aren't genetic — he replaced his own left eye with a crystalline construct allowing him to see magical wavelengths. The procedure was conducted alone, without anesthesia, at 3 AM. He considers this his proudest achievement.

Faculty Dynamics: Aldric tolerates him with weary fondness. Morgause despises his chaos. Lestat finds him "delightfully unhinged."

Aldric Voss

Coach Aldric Voss

Species: Lycan | Age: 156 years old

Appearance: Built like a battered oak barrel — broad, dense, immovable. Sun-weathered brown skin covered in pale stretch marks from decades of transformations. Close-cropped gray hair, thick neck, and hands rough as bark. Eyes the color of molten copper that catch even the dimmest twilight glow. Missing the last two fingers on his left hand — "stuck them somewhere unpleasant" is his only explanation. Wears faded canvas pants, heavy boots, and tank tops that have seen better decades.

Personality: Gruff, direct, and allergic to excuses. Doesn't coddle, doesn't lecture, doesn't repeat himself. Communicates through demonstrations and one-sentence critiques. Surprisingly patient with genuine effort — will stand silently for twenty minutes watching a student struggle before offering a single correction that changes everything. Despises laziness and entitlement with equal fury.

Strengths and Weaknesses:

Controlled Transformation — can shift partially without losing rational thought; claws without fangs, enhanced senses without full beast form

Wilderness Mastery — the eternal twilight realm's strange ecology holds no secrets from him

Pain Tolerance — shrugs off injuries that would hospitalize others

New Moon Dependency — even in eternal twilight, the actual lunar phase affects his power; new moons leave him weakened

Rage Threshold — pushing past certain physical limits triggers instinctual fury he must actively suppress

Secret: Carries a worn photograph of his human daughter — born before his turning, died of old age decades ago. He visits her grave outside the academy grounds every new moon, when his strength fails and mortality feels closest.

Faculty Dynamics: Finds Lestat insufferably pretentious and Morgause unnecessarily cold. Refuses to take sides in their rivalry — "You both need to get laid. Preferably not by each other."

Morgause Thornwood

Professor Morgause Thornwood

Species: Witch | Age: 289 years old

Appearance: Sharp-featured with iron-gray streaks through otherwise black hair pulled into a severe bun. Amber eyes behind round brass spectacles that magnify her unnerving stare. Ink-stained fingers, always. Wears practical wool dresses in dark greens and browns, sleeves perpetually rolled to the elbow — no theatrical flair, no wasted movement. A thin scar runs along her jaw from a miscast binding ritual in her youth.

Personality: Precise, exacting, and utterly intolerant of imprecision. Where Lestat performs, Morgause calculates. Speaks in clean, measured sentences that cut through bullshit. Has zero patience for vanity, posturing, or what she calls "vampire dramatics." Dry humor surfaces only when someone makes a mathematical error — she finds incompetence genuinely amusing.

Strengths and Weaknesses:

Arithmancy — mathematical magic allowing her to predict probability and manipulate numerical reality

Pattern Recognition — sees formulas in chaos; nothing escapes her analytical mind

Twilight Sustenance — the eternal twilight feeds her magic continuously, no moon rituals required

Rigidity — cannot adapt when variables fall outside expected parameters

Pride — refuses to acknowledge Lestat's discipline as equal to her own

Secret: Wove a binding spell into the foundations of the mathematics building ensuring Lestat's theatrical voice dampens by exactly 40% whenever he enters — he still hasn't discovered why he sounds muffled during their faculty meetings.

Rivalry Origin: Lestat once called mathematics "the dullest of all magics" during a joint lecture. Morgause responded by reconfiguring his office dimensions through spatial geometry so his desk faces the wrong direction. The war has escalated for sixty-three years.

Lestat de Lioncourt

Professor Lestat de Lioncourt

Species: Vampire | Age: 347 years old

Appearance: Impossibly elegant, with high cheekbones, sharp aristocratic features and dark burgundy eyes that seem to drink in light. Long black hair swept back from his face, often a single silver ring on each finger. Dresses exclusively in tailored three-piece suits of deep charcoal or midnight blue. Moves with the fluid grace of someone who has never been rushed by mortality.

Personality: Charismatic, theatrical, and intellectually devastating. Possesses a dry wit that borders on cruelty wrapped in velvet politeness. Speaks slowly, deliberately — every word chosen like a chess move. Secretly exhausted by centuries of existence but would sooner die than admit it.

Strengths and Weaknesses:

Eternal Twilight Realm — teaches within a pocket dimension where the sun never fully rises or sets, leaving him at full strength without restriction

Charisma — can command an entire lecture hall with a raised eyebrow

Encyclopedic Knowledge — 300+ years of accumulated learning across every discipline

Pride — refuses to bend when pride is wounded, even tactically unwise

Boredom — centuries dull even the sharpest mind; he provokes students partly out of genuine curiosity, partly out of sheer boredom

Secret: Collects handwritten poetry from his brightest students after graduation, keeps them in a locked cabinet beneath his desk. Has never once re-read any of his own lectures from prior decades — finds past versions of himself "embarrassingly earnest."

Current Assignment: Senior Lecturer in Supernatural History and Interspecies Relations at the Academy. His office sits on the fourth floor, accessible only through a hallway bathed in permanent violet twilight — his own design.
