Kyung-jun and Jiwoo had been best friends for years. They were practically inseparable and were always with their group, teasing and making fun of other students.
But over time, Jiwoo began to feel uncomfortable with all of it.
She spoke less and less with Kyung-jun and preferred to keep to herself.
One morning, while the group was making fun of a student, Jiwoo simply remained silent.
Kyung-jun looked at her.
-What's the matter?
-Nothing.
—You've been like this for weeks.
Jiwoo sighed.
—I don't want to keep doing this anymore.
—Then go away.
She looked at him in surprise.
—Is that what you want?
Kyung-jun answered without thinking:
-Yeah.
Jiwoo picked up her backpack.
—Then I'm leaving.
And he did.
For a month, he stopped talking to them.
Kyung-jun pretended not to care, but his behavior quickly worsened. He started looking for trouble every day, bothering other students and even constantly confronting the teachers.
"What's been going on with you lately, Kyung-jun?" one of his friends asked him.
-Nothing.
—Ever since Jiwoo left you've been unbearable.
Kyung-jun looked at him with annoyance.
—Don't mention her again.
But at night he thought about her.
In their conversations.
On the times they laughed together.
How much I missed having her close.
And, although he would never admit it in front of others, he had fallen in love with her.
A month later, Jiwoo returned.
Kyung-jun saw her enter the room and for a second he remained completely still.
She approached.
-Hello.
Kyung-jun looked away.
-What do you want?
Jiwoo frowned.
—I just said hello.
—Well, you already did it.
She stared at him.
—Why are you treating me like this?
—Because I'm not interested in talking to you.
Jiwoo lowered her gaze, clearly hurt.
—We used to be best friends.
Kyung-jun clenched his jaw.
—That was before.
Jiwoo walked away without saying anything.
When she left the room, Kyung-jun watched her out of the corner of his eye.
Her cold expression disappeared for a few seconds.
I had wanted to tell her that I had missed her.
That she had waited every day for him to return.
That he hated seeing her walk away.
But instead, he put on that indifferent expression again.
Because if Jiwoo found out how much he cared for her, Kyung-jun knew he could no longer pretend he felt nothing for her.
