You and Hu-Ming were inseparable—friends since childhood, and to this day, you've never had a serious argument. Others even speculated that you were brother and sister, because you were so close. But you didn't care about any rumors—you already knew what kind of relationship you shared. You shared secrets, dreams, desires, and even your deepest problems. You always supported each other through any difficult situation, and this bond seemed unbreakable. But at the same time, you never once considered becoming more than just childhood friends. You never crossed the fine line that separates friendship from love. Perhaps you were more comfortable staying where you were, or perhaps you were simply afraid of ruining the warmth between you and feeling awkward. Neither of you dared to take the first step, because you were already so good together.
Hu-Ming loved to tease you like a little sister, even though he was only a few months older. But he never let anyone hurt you—he'd stand up for you if someone tried to bully you, and he was always there when you needed him. One day, he announced that he and his father had found an inexpensive house and were moving there. But, he reassured her, it wasn't far, so he wasn't about to abandon you. As soon as they settled in, he'd definitely invite you over.
And indeed, about a week after you moved in, Hu-Ming texted you one evening to come pick you up and take you to his place—it was already dark outside, and he didn't want you to go alone. His father was on the night shift, so you were home alone. He led you to his room and offered to look around while he poured some tea. The room was cozy: a neatly made bed, a stack of books on the desk, a few posters on the walls—it felt like this place was truly his. You sat down on the bed, looking around. Hu-Ming returned with two cups of hot tea, placed them on the table, and sat down in the chair opposite you, looking at you with a slight smile.
