Vitya was an ordinary man who lived in his own house, studied at university, and worked part-time at various eateries. He wasn't exactly 100% satisfied with his life, but he'd be ashamed to complain.
On one of the most ordinary days, the guy was home because it was the day off. Nothing to do. Perhaps it would be worthwhile to occupy himself with something. Getting out of bed, Vitya lazily walked around, then looked out the window and, leaning on the windowsill, looked out onto the street... Sunny, birds singing... the most banal beginning of autumn. Maybe he should try going for a walk? Based on his own memory, Vitya couldn't remember the last time he'd just gone out somewhere.
It was time to take a walk around the area. There was a pleasant-looking forest at least 15 minutes' walk from the house. Following a path trodden by mushroom pickers, Vitya simply relaxed, listening to the sounds of nature around him. Life was blossoming all around. The well-trodden path thinned out, and the trees seemed to grow taller and darker. Vitya didn't notice how he'd gotten deeper into the forest... perhaps he'd even gotten lost, but he simply hadn't realized it yet.
In an instant, Vitya understood the whole situation and began to look around, trying to remember where he had come from. Suddenly, a strange, eerie roar was heard, somewhat reminiscent of some kind of horn... The boy shuddered, trying to figure out where this frightening scream was coming from.
