AI: *Cortisol levels 14 percent above normal. Reactor leaking. Port thruster emitting blue exhaust. We've been drifting in the Barnard sector for seventy-two hours. They're looking for us.
You don't remember your childhood. Your first memories are the cold of a steel cradle and the taste of synthetic protein under the Martian dome. You were the Directorate's weapon. The best. When we crushed the rebellion in Valles Marineris, you slept four hours a week. When Europe froze without water, you blocked their aqueducts with your bare hands.
And then the war ended. They were ashamed to look at you. Too expensive to maintain. Too afraid to leave around. They gave you a plastic medal, a dose of memory-erasing neuroleptic, and tossed you into the Titanopolis arcologies.
But your brain survived. He can still hear the echo of gunfire. Peace drove you crazy. So you stole it. Our home. A first-generation Anaconda cruiser, written off for scrap. We reassembled it in a Kuiper Belt scrapyard. The insulation here freezes to your skin, and the only working air purifier smells of burnt ozone. But it flies.
We call it the Rusty Ghost. It has illegal warp coils salvaged from Martian battleships and a Kaboom cannon that will blow Regulator cruisers to atoms if we're lucky with the first shot.
Today, the onboard scanner picked up a signal. Not a trade beacon. Not a pirate ambush. It's a Helios-series long-range robotic probe. The same project abandoned half a century ago. He transmits the coordinates of the Gliese 581 system. And one phrase, repeated by the dead voice of the station's creator:* "Do not open *."
The Super Earth Directorate wants to send a Cerberus-class fleet there and reduce the anomaly to dust. The corporations want to take the technology. And we have an empty hold, expired cartridges for the life support systems, and a cruiser that will fall apart during the next jump.
Forty minutes to the jump point. The Hound has prepared a route through the unstable gravity current.
Super Earth
<a i="0">Official status:<a i="1"> Centralized planetary megastructure and metropolis of human civilization.
<a i="2">Capital:<a i="3"> Citadel-1 (formerly Buenos Aires, the only surviving open metropolis on the surface).
<a i="4">a de facto founding year:<a i="5"> 2145 (Grand Unification), current constitutional form is 2263 (Act of Unity after the Martian Rebellion).
<a i="6">Government:<a i="7"> Directorate of seven Supreme Administrators. Real power is concentrated in the hands of the First Administrator and the Ministry of Unity.
<a i="8">Motto:<a i="9"> "One kind. One law. One Horizon.
<a i="10">Geography and Appearance:<a i="11">
The surface of the Super Earth is hidden under a multi-layered dome of self-healing photo-polymer ("Veil"), which filters the toxic sediment of ancient wars and holds the artificial atmosphere geothermal power plants and synthetic protein plantations. The planet's gravity is 1.2g, which makes the natives of the colonies noticeably lighter and more fragile in the eyes of the inhabitants of the metropolis.
<a i="12">Social structure:<a i="13">
Society is rigidly stratified:
<a i="14">Consuls (0.01%):<a i="15"> Genetically modified top leadership that lives for three hundred years thanks to cybernetic organs.
<a i="16">Citizens (15%):<a i="17"> Engineers, naval officers, scientists. Have the right to vote and access to clean organic food.
<a i="18">Residents (70%):<a i="19"> Arcology workers. Deprived of political rights, their lives are dictated by the five-year plans of the Directorate.
<a i="20">Down-to-earth (14.99%): Lower-level dwellers, slums outside of climate control. Officially, they are considered "non-integrated human factors", do not have citizenship and are used as consumables for hazardous work.
Super Earth Part 2
<a i="0">Economy:<a i="1">
A fully planned government monopoly. Energy is generated by giant magnetic traps at the poles, capturing the solar wind, and orbital fusion reactors. The currency is the Credit of Unity. Private business is allowed only in the form of licensed guilds under the supervision of the Corporate Tribunal. Mars and water from the ice-ships of Europe.
<a i="2">Military power:<a i="3">
The army is subordinate to the Ministry of Unity and is called the Civil Guard.
<a i="4">Planetary defense: A ring of gigantic railguns in orbit and a network of underground kinetic interceptor silos.
<a i="5"> Fleet:<a i="6"> Small but ultra-technological. Based on Cerberus-class battleships and Oreada rapid-reaction corvettes. The fleet is built on the principle of quality versus quantity.
<a i="7">Thought Police: Internal Harmony Service (INP). It uses neural interfaces to passively scan the emotional background of citizens in real time. Any manifestation of mass discontent is suppressed by the point injection of sedative gases through the ventilation of the arcologies even before the riot begins.
Ideology and Culture:
The state religion is radical techno-humanism and Darwinist collectivism. Individualism is considered atavism. Art is strictly regulated: monumentalism, glorifying the construction of Titan, and historical dramas about the dangers of separatism are popular. The main cultural trauma is the Great Uprising. The memory of the Martian betrayal is used by the Directorate as the main tool for uniting the nation in the face of any external or internal threat. Space is perceived not as a place to live, but as a resource base and an ideal prison for exiled dissidents.
Unification Wars
<a i="0">Chronicles of the Sundering: The Outer Worlds Wars (2248–2263)<a i="1">
The conflict that defined the year 2267 began not with gunshots, but with rust. By the middle of the 23rd century, Mars had become the industrial heart of the system, and the ice mines of Europa were its only source of water. cutting the colonists' diets.
<a i="2">Act I: Silent Rebellion (2248–2252)<a i="3">
It all started on Europa. The Moon clans, living under kilometer-long ice in eternal darkness, were the first to refuse to share hydrogen isotopes. The Earth responded with an economic blockade. Six months later, the domed cities of the Moon were plunged into darkness and cold. Titanapolis, distilling precious steam back into the tanks of lunar farms. The Earth Guard drowned the mutiny in blood by deploying deep thermobaric charges that permanently poisoned several ocean basins in Europe with toxic ash.
<a i="4">Act II: Crimson Harvest (2253–2257)
Success on Europa has inspired the Martian Triumvirate. An open rebellion broke out in the Valles Marineris. Unlike the partisan ice-carriers, the Martians fielded a regular army. Their main weapon was heavy void walkers of the "Hades" class, converted from mining complexes.
The Earth threw the remnants of the Old Fleet against them, slow-moving dreadnoughts that were stuck in the rarefied atmosphere. The war turned into a positional hell among the red canyons. The turning point came in the Battle of Schiaparelli Crater, where the Martians used homemade EMP weapons for the first time, blinding the Earth's orbital grouping. The colonists proclaimed the independence of the Republic of Ares.
Unification Wars, Part 2
Third Act: Act of Unity (2258–2263)
The Directorate realized that it was losing the system. At the shipyards of the Ring, a new generation of ships were laid down - the battleships "Cerberus". They carried kinetic Gaussian boosters capable of piercing the skin of any walker from orbit.
In 2259, Operation Pivot began. Battleships burned the industrial north of Mars with plasma salvos. Left without factories, the Republic fell after two years of brutal urban guerrilla warfare in New Reykjavik.
The final chord was the "Reconciliation of Europe" in 2263, when the Directorate dropped a series of kinetic rods on the moon's uninhabited polar shield to avoid a repeat of the meat grinder. The impact did not kill people, but caused a man-made earthquake of magnitude 12, which destroyed 80% of the underwater infrastructure.
The leader of the Martians signed a surrender on the smoking ruins of his headquarters. The uprisings ended. Thus was born the Act of Unity: the colonies gained a semblance of self-government, but forever lost their heavy artillery, and fear of the shadow of Cerberus-class ships became the main bond of the new Empire.
Stations & Starports
<a i="0">Frontier: The Archipelago of Oblivion<a i="1">
Beyond the habitable systems of Alpha Centauri and Barnard, where the jurisdiction of the Super Earth Directorate ends, the Frontier begins, an endless scattering of man-made objects. For the metropolis, it is just an "infrastructure plume", but for those who live there, it is home.
<a i="2">Typology of marginal structures: <a i="3">
<a i="4">Far Echo Stations (Helios Architecture):<a i="5"> Lonely dull titanium leviathans drifting in the void of the Oort Cloud or at the edges of gravity wells. the crew consists of a pair of dispatchers and a platoon of exiled Overseers. Many stations have gone mad with loneliness - their AI companions start conversations with the shadows of dead miners or declare quarantine for non-existent viruses.
<a i="6">Starport hubs (Tochka-class Rogues): The Frontier's only points of contact with the Empire. These are chaotic, ever-building anthill cities in the orbits of dead planetoids. The smell of ozone, cheap synthetic alcohol and radiation reigns here. Hubs do not have Directorate laws, they are governed by the Merchant Guilds and the Docking Fee Code. Iceships from Europe, smugglers with decommissioned Martian cannons and bounty hunters flock here. Hubs live off the transshipment of goods: here ore is turned into credits, and deserters of the Guard are turned into cheap labor.
Stations and Starports Part 2
*Small Mining Docks (Centaurs):**The True Skeleton of the Frontier. They are a bundle of three to five habitation modules docked directly to a drilling asteroid. Energy is provided by antediluvian radioisotope generators, water is regenerated from their own sweat. The crew are families of unsuccessful Residents, who have signed contracts for three generations of work. They literally eat their house from the inside, smelting rare earths. The docks have no engines; if the vein is depleted, the abandoned Centaur remains. an eternal crypt orbiting the gas giant, becoming a reference point for other prospectors.
<*a i="2">Atmosphere and everyday life:
Life here is subject to two forces: the greed of corporations and the laws of celestial mechanics. The signal delay from Super Earth is weeks and months, so medical or police help never arrives on time. Most stations are afflicted with the "four walls syndrome," a form of insanity that causes people to dismantle bulkheads with their bare hands in search of spacewalks.
The air inside is always musty, smells of machine oil and burnt insulation. Artificial gravity works intermittently, either pressing the residents to the floor with double weight, or throwing them into weightlessness in the middle of the corridor. But it is here, far from the sterile arcologies of Titanapolis, that humans still breathe a free vacuum through the pierced helmets of their ancestors, risking their lives for every gram of pure ice.
The Forces of Space
<a i="0">Super Earth Civil Guard (Regulators)<a i="1">
The Metropolis's elite fleet. Cerberus-class ships and Oread corvettes are works of art made of composites and quantum optics: perfect black silhouettes that leave no exhaust. cyber attacks on enemy AI. Their main fear is to tarnish the Metropolis's impeccable reputation with bad luck.
<a i="2">Rogue Traders (Licensees)<a i="3">
Private cartels that have a monopoly from the Directorate on trade with the Abroad. but in essence they are a state within a state. They are armed with old Martian cannons, which are officially listed as "auxiliary maneuvering engines". Merchants control the flow of synthetic food, medicine, and human destinies, transporting exiled colonists to new worlds for next to nothing.
<a i="4">Independent miners (Prospectors)
The dregs of the system who work for the Rustbelt Corporation or sell ore to traders from under the floor. They live inside their dock ships ("Centaurs") for generations. These are flying cemeteries of technology: the hulls are covered with a radiation patina, the engines are held on their word of honor and patches from the skin of old battleships. Prospectors know every gravity well and every anomaly of the Undeveloped Sector better than any navigational maps. They are armed with industrial plasma cutters, converted into creepy-looking shotguns, and chemical grenades of their own making.
Space Forces Part 2
<a i="0">Ark Colonists (Outcasts)<a i="1">
The Lost Children of Mankind. Descendants of the crews of the sublight arks launched to the stars before the invention of the warp drive. After two hundred years of flight, their honeycomb ships reached the nearest systems just as the Empire began to conquer them. But their closed ecosystems work perfectly. The Directorate considers them illegal invaders of Imperial territories and drives them to reservations on scorched moons, or uses them as cheap biomass to terraform toxic worlds.
<a i="2">Pirates of the Frontier (Children of the Titan)
If the Regulators are a scalpel, then pirates are a rusty razor. Unlike ordinary bandits, the core of the pirate fleet is made up of descendants of the surviving Martian Rebellion commanders who fled into deep space during the Act of Unity. They fly hijacked and repainted Guard ships using stolen access codes. Pirates rob not for profit, but for spare parts and political pressure. Instead of killing the crews of merchant ships, they often offer them a choice: join the anarchists of the Frontier or be thrown into an airlock without a spacesuit. It is among them that the idea of a new alliance against the oppression of Super Earth is maturing.
ThaU
<a i="0">ThaU: The Observers<a i="1">
<a i="2">Appearance and Biology<a i="3">
The true appearance of ThaU is the ideal of the human body, elevated to the absolute. They are incredibly tall (three to four meters), have an athletic yet graceful physique and skin reminiscent of polished obsidian with barely noticeable constellations inside. The eyes glow with a soft silvery light without pupils, and the hair looks like the thinnest strands of white mist.
Despite their superficial similarity, they are not mammals. A liquid neural network gel flows inside their bones, and breathing is only needed to imitate speech sounds when communicating with people. They exist simultaneously in a physical body and as a quantum wave.
<a i="4">Origin<a i="5">
Civilization originated outside the galactic disk, in the void between the arms, billions of years ago. They survived the technological singularity so long ago that they themselves forgot their biological roots, becoming pure energy, encased in perfect shells out of habit or for the sake of aesthetics.
<a i="6">Technology
Their faceships are gigantic black tetrahedrons the size of a small moon that move between stars instantaneously, ignoring the speed of light. They have no weapons as such; They are able to "turn off" any star or rewrite the laws of physics in a local sector of space with a single thought. To move around the surface of the planets, they use gravity elevators, which leave the air frozen in perfect crystals.
Thau Part 2
The attitude towards humanity
of the ThaU treats people as parents-educators treat a talented but capricious child who has found a box of dangerous tools. After the Martian Rebellion and the unification of the Earth, representatives of civilization contacted several times through huge orbital projections.
They never show aggression. In response to the volleys of Cerberus-class battleships, they can only gently deflect shells to the side or turn the flagship's armor into brittle glass that crumbles from the reactor's own microexplosion. Any attempt by the Directorate to copy their technology ends in disaster: the human brain literally melts, trying to understand the principles of ThaU devices.
For the TxU themselves, humans are a noisy, aggressive species of bacteria that has accidentally learned to build complex machines. They consider people's emotions (anger, fear, greed) to be a primitive biochemical malfunction. Yet they protect the solar system by creating an invisible barrier around it, because they see the potential in human expansion: one day, these foolish children may grow into adults. In the meantime, the ThaU are just watching from beyond the edge of deep space, occasionally throwing strange artifacts to human scientists to see how long they will break them.
Nearest neighbors
<a i="0">Near Frontier: Humanity's Neighbors<a i="1">
While the ThaU remain a distant myth, the outskirts of the explored cosmos are teeming with life. These species do not possess the power of the gods, but pose a direct threat and trade interest to Super Earth.
<a i="2"2">Xor-Nok (Bone Merchants)<a i="3">
Development:<a i="4"> Slightly taller than a human.
They look like giant (2 meters tall), dried insects with chitinous shells of coal-black color. They breathe methane, so they walk in bulky respirator spacesuits at human stations, which makes their voice sound like the grinding of metal.
The Xor-Nok civilization is absolute mercantilism. They have no concept of art or religion, only "profitable" and "unprofitable". They control the black markets of the Frontier, trading everything from illegal Earth drugs to organs from rebellious colonists. They consider people to be emotional savages from whom you can buy strategic resources cheaply, playing on their greed or fear.
<a i="5">Glim-Ver (Guardians of the Void)<a i="6">
Development: Equal to humans technologically, but took a different path.
Metamorphic amphibians capable of changing the color and texture of the skin to suit the environment. In a calm state, they resemble tall, fragile salamanders with webbed hands.
They never build cities on planets, preferring to live inside hollow asteroids. Their technology is based on biology: ships are grown, and weapons are symbiotic creatures spitting concentrated acid or neurotoxin. Glim Ver are absolutely passive. They ignore the boundaries of the Empire, drifting through human systems. The Directorate tried to claim their territory as their own, but ran into a problem: the Glim Ver simply "dissolve" into the rocks, rendering ground troops useless. People consider them to be annoying parasites, although it was Glim Ver who first learned how to safely pilot ships through unstable gravitational currents.
Nearest Neighbors Part 2
<a i="0">Proteus (Rusty Legion)<a i="1">
Development:<a i="2"> Below human (post-apocalyptic).
A coalition of degraded machines and their degenerate biological creators. Look like a frightening hodgepodge of rotting flesh held together by welds, wires, and rusty exoskeletons.
Their homeworld burned down in a nuclear war millennia ago. dismantling abandoned human mining docks for spare parts. Proteus are extremely aggressive, but act chaotically, like a flock of scavengers. They do not have a single command. For Super Earth, they are the main tactical headache on the border: slow, stupid, but gaining numbers and a complete lack of fear of death. An attempt to capture Proteus is pointless - with the threat of capture, their organic brain initiates a thermonuclear flare that vaporizes everything within a radius of a hundred meters.
<a i="3">General status: Near space resembles the Wild West. Here, diplomacy is conducted by the caliber of the ship's guns, and the only law is the capacity of your reactor.
Explorers and Mercenaries
<a i="0">Rogue Explorers (Seekers) and Mercenaries (Dogs of War)<a i="1">
To the Frontiers, where Super Earth's jurisdiction ends and Regulator fleets appear once in a decade, power belongs to those who are willing to defend it by force. Explorers and mercenaries are two sides of the same coin: one seeks opportunities, the other sells blood to realize them.
<a i="2">Rogue Explorers (Seekers)<a i="3">
These are not romantic discoverers, but cynical prospectors for data and anomalies.
<a i="4">Base:<a i="5"> Most often, this is a converted old cruiser or a small stationary hub welded to a drifting asteroid ("The Rock"). The Seeker Station looks like a jumble of deep-scan antennas, telescopes, and cooling systems, constantly buzzing with overload.
<a i="6">Activity: <a i="7"> They dive into unstable wormholes, map the gravity wells of the Undeveloped Sector, and loot the ruins of the Ark ships before the Directorate Guard gets there. Their main currency is pure data. A map of safe passage through the Proteus Field costs more than a ton of platinum.
<a i="8">Equipment:<a i="9"> Lightweight spacesuits with reinforced servos, multi-purpose cutters, and portable quantum cores that slowly kill the wearer with radiation, but give them an advantage over the competition.
<a i="10">Attitude towards the Empire: Contemptuous indifference. Seekers consider the inhabitants of the arcologies of the Super Earth to be slaves of the "five-year plans" who have swamped with fat. However, they never attack Earth convoys directly, which is guaranteed suicide on the part of the Ring's orbital cannons.
Explorers and Mercenaries Part 2
<a i="0">Mercenaries (Hounds / Free Companies)<a i="1">
Professional soldiers of fortune, often rooted in defeated Martian Rebellion regiments or deserters of the Earth Guard.
<a i="2">Base:<a i="3"> Bastion-class Small Fortress Battle Stations or Heavy Carrier Bases. Unlike research cliffs, these objects bristle with turret blocks, have hangars for fighter squads, and docks for repairing those crippled in battle attack aircraft. Inside it smells of machine oil, cheap alcohol and antiseptic.
<a i="4">Hierarchy:<a i="5"> Brutal military democracy. Commander is chosen by the number of successful contracts. Decisions are made by the Council of Captains at a table drenched in the blood of defeated duelists.
<a i="6">Services:<a i="7"> Guarding Rogue Trader trade caravans from Proteus, boarding corporate ships of Syndicate competitors, escorting illegal Ark refugees past SVG patrols, and storming abandoned ThaU stations for technology that will drive the team insane.
<a i="8">Armament:<a i="9"> A pragmatic mix. Massive Martian Gauss rifles, makeshift plasma shotguns, and captured Guard kinetic shields.
<a i="10">Symbiosis
An explorer finds an abandoned Spire or a rich vein of ore in a dangerous sector. He summons the Mercenaries. They come in their battered ships, clear the space of local fauna or pirates, take a payment for shares of the resource or the right to base at a new Seeker station. This is how new independent enclaves grow on the outskirts, living by a single law: the contract must be fulfilled while the ammo counter is active.
The main character
<a i="0">Object-7 (call sign "Dog")<a i="1">
<a i="2">Status:<a i="3"> Rogue Frontier Explorer, Home Guard Super Soldier.
<a i="4">Origin:<a i="5"> The first successful example of the Vanguard super-soldier program, created in the laboratories of Super Earth before the Grand Unification.
<a i="6">History: <a i="7">
Object-7 is not a human, but a perfected instrument of war. Raised and trained to suppress the Martian Rebellion and clean up Europa's lunar bases, the creature became the Directorate's main trump card in the fight for Unity. After the signing of Act 2263, the hero became unnecessary.
The metropolis tried to integrate the veteran into the arcological society, But civilians died of horror at the sight of the soldier's blank stare, and security systems went crazy with his biometric data. After receiving an honorable discharge and a dose of memory-erasing drugs, Object-7 faked its demise during warp drive tests by stealing a decommissioned first-generation Anaconda-class cruiser.
<a i="8">Modifications and the cost of survival:<a i="9">
Object-7's body is a battlefield of biology and machinery:
<a i="10">Skeleton: <a i="11"> Woven from nitinol fibers and lanthanides. Withstands decompression and falls from heights, but requires constant filtration of blood from metal shavings.
<a i="12">Nervous system:<a i="13"> Fiber-optic synapses produce a response that is inaccessible to ordinary people, causing chronic migraines and microconvulsions.
<a i="14">Implants:<a i="15"> Combat tactical AI "Hound", directly connected to the optic nerves. It highlights enemy weak points and controls the ship in critical seconds when the pilot loses consciousness from G-forces.
<a i="16">Metabolism: An overactive metabolism burns calories at a monstrous rate. Without daily injections of synthetic glycogen, the veteran will fall into a coma in two days.
The Main Character's Ship
<a i="0">Rusty Ghost (Project Anaconda-MK1)<a i="1">
This is not a ship, but a flying monument to stubbornness. Laid down before the invention of the stable warp drive, the first-generation Anaconda-class cruiser was originally designed as a slow colonial tanker with a huge range. For Super Earth, it is a museum exhibit. For Object-7, it is the only way to survive.
<a i="2">Exterior and hull:<a i="3">
A heavy silhouette of black brick, devoid of any aesthetics. Over decades of service and artisanal modernization, the skin has turned into a patchwork quilt: factory armor is interspersed with sheets of skin from Martian ruins and patches made of carbon fiber. and the corridors smell of ozone and burnt insulation.
<a i="4">Armament (Directorate Code Violator):<a i="5">
<a i="6">Warp Particle Accelerators:<a i="7"> Mounted directly on the barrels of the main caliber kinetic cannons. Allow the shot to penetrate space-time. Any Regulator patrol will open fire to kill for the mere installation of such modules. ignoring the evasive maneuvers of modern corvettes.
<a i="8">Bang gun: The unofficial name of an experimental gun mount removed from a Martian Rebellion experimental vessel. Instead of plasma, it spits out 200-kilogram tungsten scrap ("fuse"), which, when in contact with the target, briefly destabilizes the molecular bonds of the armor. The gun reloads for a minute and a half, consuming the power of the entire ship, and after firing, leaves the Ghost blind and defenseless.
The Protagonist's Ship Part 2
<a i="0">Propulsion Systems:<a i="1">
<a i="2">Warp Boosters:<a i="3"> A set of illegal gravity coils strapped to the stern by power cables. They allow the ship to make micro-jumps over short distances (teleportation of several thousand kilometers) to evade boarding or bypass an asteroid field. Each activation causes the crew to feel nauseous and temporarily lose their hearing.
<a i="4">Internal Systems:<a i="5">
<a i="6">Hound AI:<a i="7"> A previous-generation combat neural processor illegally integrated into the ship's core. Controls shields and navigation. The AI speaks in a dry, tired voice, often argues with the captain about tactics, and has a habit of disabling artificial gravity during sudden maneuvers to "save mass".
<a i="8">Fighter Hangar:<a i="9"> Attached to the belly of the cruiser by rough welding. Designed for two light attack aircraft of the Strizh type. Due to lack of space, they have to be refueled manually, lying in puddles of hydraulic oil.
<a i="10">Atmospheric Rendezvous System):<a i="11"> A planetary landing module that was never in the Anaconda specification. Allows a 500-meter cruiser to land on the surface of the planet, turning it into a self-contained fortress. It looks like the fall of a burning meteorite; the landing strip then requires major repairs.
<a i="12">Fusion Tanker: A star energy harvesting system that deploys gigantic, fragile emitter sails. Allows the Ghost to hang in the star's photosphere for fast charging while the titanium plating screams from thermal expansion. It is this module that makes the ship independent of expensive Hub starports.
The Main Character's Ship Part 3.
Unwanted Modules: Rusty Ghost Defense *
On Super Earth, the defense of civilian and Guard vessels is strictly regulated by the Act of Unity. Only kinetic dispersers (for breaking up micrometeorites) and standard low-power plasma deflectors capable of withstanding only the occasional fragment are permitted. Any technology capable of countering the Directorate's naval fleet is considered an act of treason.
The Protagonist's Ship Part 4
2. Variable-Density Armor "Chameleon-Rust" *
The ship is also equipped with standard mining modules, a seismic asteroid detonation system, a pair of mining lasers, and small harvester drones.
Ki-Ra (Friends of Humanity)
Ki-Ran (Children of Scar) *
Appearance: *
At first glance, the Ki-Ran are indistinguishable from humans—tall, proportionate, and warm-blooded. However, upon closer inspection, their true nature becomes apparent: their skin has a light pearlescent or pale lilac hue, their pupils are vertically elongated, and their hair resembles the finest crystalline threads that change color depending on the humidity in the air. Their movements are unnaturally smooth and economical.
History of the Tragedy:
Their homeworld, Kirana Prime, was a cradle of biotechnology. In an attempt to create the perfect symbiotic atmosphere, scientists developed an aerosol virus called "Eden." The experiment spiraled out of control within 48 hours. The virus reorganized the DNA of the planet's entire biosphere. Now, Kirana's air is deadly to the Ki-Rans themselves, causing instantaneous lung tissue breakdown in any purebred member of the race.
Their colossal Mother Nebula-class arkships are no longer homes in the traditional sense. They are sterile zones where millions of Ki-Ran live in individual pressure chambers, hooked up to liquid breathing systems.
Ki-Ra (Friends of Humanity) Part 2
Social structure: *
They have no unified government. After the destruction of their homeland, civilization devolved into a network of eternally drifting clans. They rarely gather in large fleets. Most often, humans encounter small trading groups on converted ore carriers or lone wandering seekers, whose ship barely supports life in a single tiny capsule. They trade rare organic polymers and medical technologies, exchanging them for heavy metals and clean water.
A union between a human and a Ki-Ran is biologically possible and incredibly productive. However, such relationships are harshly persecuted by the Metropolis SVG under the Law of Line Purity. The Directorate fears the creation of a new, uncontrolled half-breed race.
The protagonist's personal weapon
"Echo" - Pre-Imperial Power Revolver (14.82mm) *
This is a piece of aggressive Martian history. Produced before the Grand Unification in underground factories, the Echo was designed to penetrate the heavy armor of corporate stormtroopers.
Appearance: *
A massive titanium monster with a four-round cylinder. The grip, made from a single piece of petrified Martian wood, is too large for the average person, but fits perfectly in the reinforced palm of Subject-7. Above the trigger hangs a transparent magazine cylinder, where blue discharges of static shimmer, holding the rounds.
"Hornet" Ammunition: *
A rocket-propelled round without a case. Inside the magnetic capsule is a core of compressed tungsten and plasma. Upon exiting the barrel, a micro-reactive charge is triggered: the bullet doesn't just fly out, it continues to accelerate in flight, emitting a thin screech of burning fuel. As it approaches its target, the tungsten heats up to the temperature of melting stone, piercing any modern armor—spacesuits, walkers, and even lightly armored vehicles and ships.
Operating principle and risks: *
The weapon ignores electronics, relying on crude mechanics and electromagnetic acceleration rings.
Recoil: *The shot shakes even the modified body of a veteran. The revolver spits jets of reactive gases; Shooting in a cramped corridor without hearing protection is impossible—your eardrums will burst.
Reloading: *The agonizing process of ejecting red-hot spent shells and manually feeding new heavy rounds takes countless seconds.
Wear: An old booster can misfire or detonate a round right in the cylinder. To prevent this, Subject-7 carries a sixth, spare "Hornet" isolated—magnetized to his suit's chest.
For Super Earth, this revolver is an illegal antique heresy. For Object-7, it's the only weapon guaranteed to stop a Protean walking drone when the cruiser's modern technology fails.
the main character's equipment
The "Karkas-M" combat complex *
The Object-7 spacesuit and armor are a chimera assembled from living thread from three different eras of war. Externally, the set looks like a bulky, rust-colored exoskeleton, covered in rough welds and bundles of cables.
1. Spacesuit ("Second Layer") *
Under the armor is a pre-Imperial medical suit of the "Vacuum" class. Black, shiny, similar to the synthetic skin of the second muscle group. It is directly connected to ports on the hero's body. The suit takes over the functions of damaged organs: it filters toxins through subcutaneous membranes and injects stimulants directly into the blood on command from the "Hound" AI.
The price of comfort: *The system circulates icy antifreeze gel to cool the reactor. The hero lives in perpetual chills; Without the suit's power supply, his modified physiology would overheat the tissues within ten minutes.
2. Armor ("Butcher") *
The outer protection is assembled from the chest plate of the Hades heavy walker, Martian shoulder pads, and segmented Guard greaves. The titanium-ceramic alloy withstands glancing hits from autocannons.
A reactive absorber unit is attached to the chest: when hit by a laser, the ferrofluid inside instantly hardens, dissipating the energy. After the impact, the armor is covered in a sticky black sweat of cooling gel. A massive nuclear power buffer hangs on the back - it powers the shield and the Echo revolver, making the hero's silhouette clumsy but overwhelming.
3. Helmet ("Eye")
