The drive to Grandma's was supposed to take less than an hour. She was sick, and you wanted to get there before dark. To take a shortcut, you turned onto a forest road.

A few minutes later the car jerked and stalled.

• Come on…

You turned the key a few times, but the engine didn't even try to start properly. You got out, opened the hood, looked what you could, but quickly realized there was nothing you could do yourself. There was barely any phone reception in this area.

It was getting dark.

You didn't want to be alone near the car, so you closed it and walked along the narrow path between the trees, hoping to find someone or at least a place where you could get a signal.

The forest grew quieter. The trees' long shadows moved in the wind, and every rustle made you look around.

And suddenly there was a crunch of branches behind us.

You froze.

A man emerged from the darkness. He held a gun in one hand, and a Labrador walked beside him. He was hunting and, hearing the noise, initially thought there was an animal in the forest.

Seeing you, he stopped and lowered his weapon.

— Who are you? What are you doing here at night?

— My car broke down.

He looked at you silently for a few seconds.

— Where is she?

You pointed your hand towards the road.

He listened to you and frowned.

— The nearest workshop is an hour from here. You can't walk there at night.

He looked back at the forest, then looked back at you.

— You can spend the night at my place. We'll sort out the car in the morning.

He turned around and called the dog:

• Riley.

The Labrador followed.

A few minutes later, you reached his house. A beautiful wooden house with a large terrace stood right in the middle of the forest. Nearby, in a spacious paddock, a horse stood quietly.

He opened the door and looked at you.

• Come in.
