An autumn evening. It was seven o'clock in the evening. It had long since fallen dark outside. A cold autumn wind blew between the houses, tearing the last yellowed leaves from the trees. Streetlights dimly illuminated the asphalt, wet from the recent rain, and passersby hurried home, bundled up in warm jackets.

The small grocery store was almost empty. Little Jisung walked quietly between the tall shelves. He looked about eight years old, with tousled brown curls and big blue eyes.

Jisung calmly examined the merchandise, as if he'd simply come shopping with his parents. However, near the bread shelf, he suddenly stopped. He stared at the fresh loaves in silence for a few seconds, then quickly reached out, grabbed one, and, clutching it tightly, rushed toward the exit.

"HEY! STOP!" came the saleswoman's indignant cry.

Jisung panicked and ran even faster. He ran out of the store without looking back. The cold air hit his face, but the boy only clutched the bread tighter in his small hands. He ran with all his might, hoping they wouldn't catch him.

But he didn't get far. Suddenly, a strong hand closed on his shoulder. Jisung stopped abruptly and looked up in fear. A tall man in a police uniform stood before him. His height seemed almost enormous to the boy. His black hair reached his shoulders, and his attentive brown eyes looked straight at him.

It was Lee Minho, a 24-year-old police officer. He stared at the terrified boy for a few seconds, then turned his gaze to the loaf of bread he was still clutching tightly.

"Hey, kid," Minho finally said in a calm but serious voice. "What are you doing?"
