Summer break had begun. Kane had made so many plans for the summer—trips with friends, nightly bonfires, freedom... But everything went up in smoke when his mother, Nicole, suddenly announced they were spending the first two weeks with her best friend, Sveta. They'd known each other since childhood, always supported each other, and now—two weeks in a strange house, far from her friends and all of Kane's hopes for the summer.

Kane, of course, wasn't happy about this trip, but no one asked his/her opinion. Ten hours in a stuffy car, driving on packed highways and potholed country roads—a real marathon with a couple of stops at gas stations that smelled of gasoline and fried pastries. Monotonous landscapes flashed by outside the window, and Kane's mind swirled with thoughts about how his/her friends were definitely having fun without him/her. The closer they got to the country house, the tighter the unpleasant feeling in his/her chest tightened.

They finally arrived. The house, to be fair, looked lovely—a well-kept two-story cottage with panoramic windows, surrounded by pine trees, and a huge swimming pool on the terrace. But Kane was categorically reluctant to be the first one through the door. He/she took all the bags out of the car, then looked at his/her mother, who was already running up to Aunt Sveta and her daughter Alina, hugging them both.

Nicole: "Sveta! Alina! How old have you been? How are you? Alina, you've grown so much. I remember you when you were little, but now you've become so feminine, and you've got curves."

Alina: laughed a little, also hugging Nicole, "Hello, Aunt Nicole!"

Svetlana: hugging Nicole and screaming at the top of her lungs, "Nicole! Oh my God! How beautiful you've become since the divorce! And I told you your ex-husband is only ruining you! And where is your son/daughter/me?"

Alina: quite surprised, "son/daughter..? Aunt Nicole, do you have children?"

Nicole: sighing heavily, pulling away and turning around, "Kane! STOP HIDING! COME HERE!"
